TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE - ESAUS v JACOBS I
And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage ; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? Genesis 25:29-32
There are very significant lessons that we must learn from the conversation that took place between these two kinds of people. It must also be clearly understood that nations are made up of societies; societies are made up of people. Therefore, the kind of people in the society shall eventually shape their nation. It is important to note that Esau kinds of people, societies and nations often wants the best delicacy (red pottage) available but they are not willing to add value to whatever they took in hunting. Having lived a significant portion of my life in third world countries, one of the very common characteristics of the millions of people I have come across is their taste for that same red pottage (foreign commodities). It ranges from luxury cars, jewelry, food, designer clothing etc. These countries mostly fail to recognise the value of iron in the ground, cotton on trees, oil from the sea etc. The Esau kinds of people despise the raw meat available to them but find joy in already served red pottage. In other words, Esau kinds of people, societies and nations do not recognise the value of a seed in the hand. What do you have in your hand today? Refuse to operate with the “Esaunic” paradigm. You are indeed a child of wonder.
Prayer:
Dear Father Lord, I pray thee to open the eyes of my understanding, grant unto me wisdom and a humble spirit that I may appreciate what is in my hands and effectively put it to use in Jesus name. Amen
