DAY EIGHTEEN
PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS
As we continue our study in the book of Revelation, it is important to note at the outset, that this is the Revelation of Jesus Christ delivered specifically to the churches. There is a reason for that. It is because the church plays a prominent role in its preparation for the wedding which will take place in chapter 19.
Although the churches in question are not mentioned after chapter 3, it does not mean the events that follow have no relationship to them. The fact is, that these events between chapters 4 and 19 are preparatory in nature and necessary in order to present to the Bridegroom ’a glorious church without spot or wrinkle.’
In chapters two and three we see seven churches addressed. But when the bridegroom comes, there will not be seven churches, there will only be one. The description of the churches in these chapters, reveals a bride not yet ready for the coming of her bridegroom. She is unprepared for the wedding so to speak. The events in chapters 4 through 19 cover a time span necessary to remove the impurities from these churches.
These churches convey a message that prior to the Lord’s return certain impurities will be present and need to be removed before the wedding can take place. I have attempted to show how the modern churches today reflect these characteristics. The refining process must take place before the great wedding can begin..
It is intended by considering these problems, that the churches may take serious note of their presence and remove them.
