Lay It Down, Rest
Jesus gives us an invitation, the great invitation in Matthews 11:28-30 come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls; for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Jesus said come, which means to advance toward a specified person or place, approach, for he is approachable and waiting. We have to approach him in a particular manner, make progress, to reach, to move into view, appear, or arrive in his presence. You have to change your position, your ways, your life for coming unto him means a step toward success. Your results in this life, how you end up eternally depends on whether you will come unto him. He do not want you just for a visit, but he wants you sold out, completely yielded unto him. He expects us to do what is required of us to come. He wants to bring forth solutions to our problems. He is the solution. He said come unto me and he will give you rest, all we need to do is lay it down, rest.
To go on we need to understand what flesh and spirit means. Flesh is the soft tissue of the body, skeletal muscle distinguished from bone and viscera, excess fat, the surface or skin of the human body, or dirt; man physical or carnal nature, mankind in general, or humanity. Spirit is the vital principle or animating force traditionally believed to be within living beings. The soul, considered as departing from the body of a person at death, the Holy Ghost, in Christian Science, God. The part of the human being associated with the mind, and feelings as distinguished from the physical body; the essential nature, a mood or emotional state, strong loyalty or dedication. They learn to cope, which means they contend or strive on even terms or with success to contend with difficulties and act to overcome them. John 6:35 say that Jesus is that bread that gives life, a spiritual and eternal life. We need to realize that people come to Christ not you. People should see Christ in you, not you in the flesh. Jesus is the lover of our souls.
We have to pray the prayer of deliverance and keep our self- delivered. James 4:8 tell us if we draw nigh unto God, he will draw nigh unto us. We have to cleanse ourselves, our hands and purify our hearts, be not double-minded, be afflicted and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Speak not evil one of another.
Many times people wants to come to Christ, they have a strong desire for him, they know that they need him, they see Christ in you and you let self rise up, and you destroy your purpose and sometime their destiny.
Let self die and keep flesh dead.
The spirit is crying to dwell in you and the spirit is dying daily when you do not feed it. Just like us when we have people we love and they do not give us the time of day, we hurt. So as the spirit, it is grieved, vexed, choke up, killed. Christ in us; keeps the Devil off of us. He said, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will, draw all men unto me. When Jesus was put on the cross, he was laid on the cross, nailed there, then; he was raised up toward heaven. He was raised up; therefore, you also must be raised up. This can only be accomplished by crucifying our flesh also, so that God spirit will rise up in us here on earth, as no flesh will glory in heaven. We must bring heaven down to us so we can go back with heaven to heaven. How should we accomplish Christ coming into us so that he can rise up in us? Flesh is rottenness to our bones, our bodies, and our souls. The only purpose it serves is to provide a covering for the spirit of God. It is a covering to protect us, but we use our flesh as a means of control. It houses us and what is in us is in control, but why do we not know it? This control of the flesh is what we have to surrender to Christ to allow him to rise up and flesh dies.
Flesh knows its purpose and is serving its purpose. The flesh knows that it is an enemy of the Spirit. Romans 8 chapter tell us that the spirit and the flesh war against each other. For they that are after the spirit mind the things of the spirit and they that are after the flesh, the things of the flesh. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spirit minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be, so then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
God made use of the flesh by wrapping up the spirit in the flesh, thereby giving it life. The spirit came down from heaven and gave life to this sinful nasty flesh. It was not sinful and nasty then, but disobedience to God made it nasty. If you will be honest with yourself, even the flesh does not want the flesh; it cries out for more, that is why it is never satisfied, nor can be. It gets sick and tired of you in it.
People cry out for love, but they use their flesh instead of what really loves; and that is, the spirit of God. God is love and Jesus Christ is the answer to all of your problems today.
People cry out for peace, but; it is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Jesus said, peace I give, my peace I leave with you, my comforter, the Holy Ghost.
People want joy; the joy of the Lord is your strength. The Kingdom of God is not meat or drink, but love, peace, joy, righteousness in the Holy Ghost.
People wants righteousness, they desire it so bad, they can taste it, they just don’t know how to get to it unless they see it in us. We are the living examples that Jesus left here. He was our example and we are the example of Jesus to the world. It is high time we live like God and be that which he has called us to be and live the gospel. It is not easy, it is uncomfortable, but because God chose you, you must cope with it.
In our life we do not or should not make plans without Christ; trying to find out what the will of God is for that situation, so not to fit the situation to us but to God’s will. We will submit our flesh to his will and we will become wiser in our life and we can submit to the righteousness of God.
Keep God in and the Devil out!!!!!!
Come, come unto Christ all you that are laden and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Consider your eternal resting place, there is no doubt; it is Heaven or Hell. We can only be certain of our destiny when our success is due to our submission, faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and living a faithful Christian life in God’s will.
Lay it down, rest.
