INSIGHT INTO THE SPIRITUAL
Ephesians 6:18”: And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” NIV
Roman 8:26-27:” In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in
accordance with God’s will.”NIV
Undeniably the task of intercession comes with the gift of a deeper insight into the spiritual realm. As the intercessor really puts it all out, the Spirit will guide the intercessor what or who to pray for as well as how to pray. It is important to understand that this kind of prayer does not contain a ten step program.
It is a process of growth where the intercessor really always depends on the guidance of the Holy Spirit altogether. The more the intercessor learn to follow the Holy Spirit in faith as he/she prays, the more the Spirit will lead the intercessor into a more deeper insight regarding the spiritual realm.
This kind of dependence on the Holy Spirit does not come easy. Many times it takes years of struggle and trust for the intercessor to come the place where he/ she can really go into the place of dependence with confidence knowing that their prayers will be heard.
UNCHAINED MELODY OF PEACE
When that intercessor finally reaches that place of confident rest in the presence of the Heavenly Father such persons radiate the peace and contentment only found in the presence of the Heavenly Father. This is no difficult concept to write a thesis on. It is merely called waiting. It is no wonder that we do not really have the capacity to learn to be patient, for our modern generation grew up in the era of quick fixes wherein every problem have a quick and efficient solution.
David speaks his mind on waiting when he writes:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm
40:1-3 NIV
It is clear that the intercessor that has been through the “school of waiting” has a calmness and peaceful demeanor that sets them apart from all the other people around them. They are easily distinguished from the crowd as they are going about their daily tasks.
All believers in Christ have that strange knowledge that somehow that is where we need to be, that must be our ultimate goal. Yet somehow we miss the mark as we always seem to go about our business ignoring the kingdom principle of waiting at the feet of the Heavenly Father where we receive wisdom, peace and instruction in how to go about our daily tasks.
An intercessor or not an intercessor you need spend time at the feet your Heavenly Father. Although you may not be called to the task of intercession you need to spend the time in waiting at the Father’s feet where you indeed are being formed in the holiness of His presence.
For through intercessors we are learning the wisdom of abiding at the Father’s feet where we will find the instruction and encouragement from the Creator in order to live life with contentment and peace.
SUBMISSION
The ability to submit is not easy. It is on our sinful nature to put our own needs first and not to be ruled over by someone else. It is therefore “natural” for us to rebel against the persons who have authority over us.
However despite of our human nature it is important for us to learn to submit under authority. Submission is a kingdom key that underlines the kingdom principle of obedience and abiding before our Almighty Father, our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit.
If we do not submit under the hand our Heavenly Father we are rebelling against Him. In the kingdom of heaven there are no two way street. You are either against God or for God.
Why is it important in intercession?
You cannot expect to go into the throne room of grace through prayer if your Christian lifestyle in not reflecting the lifestyle of submission. In intercession submission makes it possible for the intercessor to go into the holy of holies and to bring prayer requests before the Heavenly Father without fear of doubt.
Like I have written in the previous paragraphs, if you are not willing to submit yourself under the Lordship of Jesus Christ you are rebelling against the Most High. In rebelling against the Most High you are not under the protection of the blood of the Lamb, making it a certainty that you will face the consequences of your rebellion:
King Saul rebelled against the instructions of the Lord not to spare any men, women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkey; putting them all to death in attacking the Amalekites. In his rebellion against the Lord he spared Agag king of the Amalekites alive, the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs-everything that was good. In the process he put the wrath of God upon himself and his generations after him.
When Samuel caught on what Saul had done he said the following to him;
“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord he has rejected you as king.” 1 Samuel 15: 22-23 NIV
The difficult aspect of submission and rebellion for most people to understand is; why do the Heavenly Father take it so seriously?
In the old biblical days divination and idolatry was punishable by death. The reason for this is that divination and idolatry stand in resistance against the Almighty Father and His kingdom principles and in order to protect His people Israel against those that practiced these sins had to be put to death in order
to stop the influences of these sins among his consecrated people from spreading.
Likewise the act of rebellion (disobedience) and arrogance (stubbornness) stand in opposition of the Most High in the manner that if you choose to disobey the voice of the Lord (Holy Spirit) and continue stubbornly in your sinful ways (even after you have received warning through the Spirit and His Word)
you are practically busy to resist and to challenge the Creator of heaven and earth.
For any person with common sense it is not logical to challenge the Creator of the universe. It is considered stupid as we are merely human against the almighty power of the Almighty God. Yet it is exactly what satan wants us to do, for he is the father of rebellion and stubbornness.
In fact rebellion and stubbornness are the two fundamental keys of his kingdom. Everything in his kingdom is designed around the desire to “dethrone” the Almighty God from his throne in order for satan to take His place of power.
So just as the Heavenly Father works through people, likewise satan uses people as his instruments to fulfill his desire of power on the earth. Therefore if you are not serving the Almighty God through obedience and submission, you are serving satan through rebellion and stubbornness.
