Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.
I want to zero in on this verse and see if we can’t see a little Life Application here, a learning for life, if you will.
Every since I was called into ministry I have been asking God to show me what He wants me to do and how to do it.
I certainly know I was called to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the entire word of God, and the perfecting of the saints. I could throw a lot of the usual clergy mumbo-jumbo in here, but I won’t.
I wanted to know exactly how and what God had for me to do. You see I have always had the feeling something was missing. I didn’t understand what that was until someone I love very dearly brought it out of me.
It took the love of a very special little person who had the key to unlock my heart and find the treasure I had hidden in there. True love is the key to your heart and can set the captive treasure in your heart free to flourish.
Let me explain.
The other day I took my ten-year-old granddaughter, who was spending the weekend with my wife and I, on an outreach event my church was doing in one of our local neighborhoods.
We were having a cookout, games, prizes, balloons, face painting, and many other free fun events for our less fortunate neighbors, and I wanted my granddaughter to experience the joy of giving of yourself to others. Unfortunately, her parents don’t take her to church.
Well, she had a great time during the event and a wonderful time in church the next day. At home, that afternoon, just before her parents came to get her, she sat down beside me and put her head on my shoulder. Tilting her head up at me she softly said, Big Daddy, (okay, that’s what all my grand children call me), I want to be a missionary when I grow up.
I was overwhelmed to hear my precious granddaughter say this. I asked her why and she replied that she wanted to give the only treasure she had to others.
What treasure was that, I asked.
Big Daddy, it’s my heart! Isn’t that what we gave those children yesterday?
You see, we had given away a bunch of little treasures to our neighbors that day and it made us feel good, but my granddaughter had given the best treasure of all, her heart, and that must have made God feel mighty good!
Those children we ministered to were economically deprived. They were tattered and worn emotionally, physically, and spiritually, yet, on that day, they received a treasure that had been unlocked from the heart of a little girl.
They, too, have a treasure locked within them that we may be able to unlock by our understanding of God’s will in our lives.
Now, I see and understand! There are treasures out there in the hearts of our neighbors and it is our mission to unlock those treasures in their hearts and set them free to do likewise.
There are no ugly people created by God...all are beautiful! It’s that some of us allow ugly things to control our lives...that is why God sent His Son to us...to bring the key from Heaven that will unlock our treasure and set our souls free!
And whom the Son sets free…is free indeed!

Lucian, Your writing is profoundly beautiful.I so enjoyed hearing about your Granddaughter's desire to give her heart to the lost one day as a missionary. Oh how The Father gave His Heart when He sent His Beloved Son to Calvary so that our Hearts could be full of GOD'S Amazing Love. Continue in His Grace Brother. May God Bless you Always! Now, Lucian, you have shown your forte. So clearly and poignantly expressed. I learned a long time ago to pray for God to love through me and enable me to view the sea of humanity as individual persons whom Jesus loves and died as much as He does me. Bobbi
Lucian, this article has really spoken to the part of me that desires wholeheartedly to be of service to the Lord. I am working steadily toward an upcoming retreat and your article strongly confirms for me what the Lord has shown me over and over and over... "just let your heart lead you... because that's where I AM." Hallelujah! Thank you for sharing such a sweet and personal part of your life with us. It has truly been such a blessing!
Lucian, what a heartwarming and heart touching article. "Out of the mouth of babes!" What a precious and heart stirring thing for your young granddaughter to say. Yes, indeed there is A LOT OF TREASURE OUT THERE, just waiting for us to come along with the key, and unlock all the wonderful treasure that God has stored there. Blessings, Sharon
