An Hour in the Bates Motel
I checked into The Bates Motel, at 00:00. Previous occupants were still there, so it was kind of crowded. We bumped into each other a lot.
At 00:06, someone moved out, and I got a corner of a bed. At 00:08 another left and I gained a pillow. I gained a half a bed when a third left at 00:12. The last guy I had to sleep next to was quite a snorer, and talked in his sleep, so I didn’t get much rest until She showed up at 00:18. That’s when I gladly moved in with her, next door. I still only got a half a bed, but She was softer, and let me share her pillow. I was the one who snored.
Then someone knocked on the door.
Joe, dressed in a white shirt and a black tie, asked me to join his family. I politely said no. Next, a girl with a big bible stood in my door and thumped me hard. Getting up from the floor, I said no, but she promised another visitor.
That visitor came at 00:19, and brought with him such a light it scared me, as it lit up everything in my room, even the things I was hiding from She. He took a step forward and engulfed me in a hug so deep I had to surrender. She became his friend too.
He promised to never leave, and I was good with that, so I gave him my easy chair, in the corner of the room, which he never seemed to stay in. He followed me around, and talked to me. I was ok with that too. Later I followed him.
At 00:21 my uncle knocked. He was always sending his sons to my door, too often, to demand a portion of my earnings. I heard he was doing the same to everyone else in the motel, maybe this was why he wasn’t well liked.
He handed me a uniform and a pop gun, and told me I had to stand outside until 00:27. I did, with my friend. She would join us, just for a moment, bringing us goodies, and a kiss.
Outside my door, my friend introduced me to others in The Bates Motel, as they walked by. We talked. and laughed, and cried with them, and he and I called out to the ones who tried to avoid us. They got hugs too.
Then at 00:27 the uncle showed up again, took my uniform and gun, thanked me for my service to the motel, and gave me permission to live in my room again.
This brought a new freedom of movement, and my friend asked me to come and visit some of the motel rooms. At first I said no, confessing that I was afraid of them, and couldn’t imagine what I could give them. My friend said not to worry, just go with him. I went, and he did all the talking, and we had some marvelous times, making new friends, and gaining new family members.
We also started visiting the Do Drop Inn, and even hugged some of the people who had no rooms to live in. What great fun we had.
Then at 00:35 She brought Little Guy into our motel room. Then I spent more time at home, and invited some home with me. Little Guy and She went with me, too.
We did a lot of visiting until about 00:59, when I got a call from The Bates Motel Office. It was time to check out. What would we do? Where would we go? What would happen to all the friends we made in The Bates Motel, and the Do Drop Inn?
My friend then took all three of us into his arms, held us, and promised he would travel to the next place with us. It was a marvelous place, he said, just down the street. It was more than a motel, and I was going first.
She would be taken care of, he said, and he would continue to visit motels with Little Guy, who wasn’t so little anymore.
I was ok with that, so I kissed She, and Little Guy, and walked down the street with him. As he promised, it was more than a motel room.
So, hang on, keep him as your friend. There are a lot of unoccupied fully furnished rooms here. Tell others too.
I can’t wait for you to become my neighbor.
