“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’” Isaiah 46: 9,10.
Seriously? Yes! The Lord Jehovah declares by His prophets that He not only knows the future, but He makes the future! God is sovereign, and one aspect of sovereignty is absolute control over time, people, events, and the what, when, who, why, how of everything!
Now keep in mind that within the framework of His sovereignty He allows the free will of man. But that’s for another discussion.
One of the ancient cities God’s prophets talked about was Babylon. It was one of the greatest empires the world has ever known. She was a rich city, ideally situated as a trading and commercial hub between the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean and on a great waterway, the Euphrates River, running close to and parallel to the Tigris River. The Tigris flowed through Assyria and produced fertile land for lush and plentiful products to be traded with Babylon.
At one point in history, around 700 B.C., Babylon rose up and captured Jerusalem, destroying many people and much of the city and villages. King Nebuchadnezzar carried many captives back to Babylon to be his slaves. Daniel was one of them, and the book of Daniel, a highly prophetic book, was written there.
But for all her riches and power and influence, God declared in His word by His prophets, Isaiah and Jeremiah, that Babylon would fall. Not only would it fall, but it would never rise again!
“And Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, the glory of the Chaldean’s pride, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; nor will the Arab pitch his tent there, nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
“But desert creatures will lie down there, and their houses will be full of owls…” Isaiah 13: 19-21.
“’And they will not take from you even a stone for a corner nor a stone for foundations, but you will be desolate forever,’ declares the Lord.
Her cities have become an object of horror, a parched land and a desert, a land in which no man lives or a son of man travels through.” Jeremiah 51: 26,43.
Tune in next time to see if these things actually came true. God bless you all…Mike
