I realize this is an unusual poem.. I actually have never written anything like this. I have been battling some things in my life, questioning my purpose, along with some family struggles. I am not the person I once was. I have fallen, struggled, and gotten back up again. This poem was actually seen visually in a dream that I had the other night. Other than subliminal things that needed to get out, I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of it was.. but I know I was supposed to write it.. I was kept awake until the last bit was written down. This poem for some reason has brought me to tears maybe at the acknowledgement that I am not who I once was and where I need to be in my life and marriage.
Still growing and not there yet... but not where I once was.
A cool evening breeze blowing
As foreboding music played
A vision of undreamt beauty
At the midnight masquerade
She felt his eyes upon her
As she moved with the bands
She glanced at him willingly
As He took her in his hands
Her lips as red as sunrise
Dress flowing as she swayed
Eyes sparkled with each gesture
At the midnight masquerade
Like a phantom in a vision
Her welcome overstayed
She shuddered in the moonlight
Of the midnight masquerade
The vision he wanted to hold onto
Quickly weakened in his view
She changed within a moment
From the beauty that he knew
She vowed to love forever
A tainted apple in her grasp
Mesmerized by her beauty
A kiss as potent as an asp
Oh her words were maddening
As she slipped into the night
Vowing to hold no one to her
As she held to him so tight
Her scent lingered longer
Than his romantic serenade
She slipped away quickly
Into the midnight masquerade
