Encouragement
Keeping a spiritual journal allows you to record your innermost thoughts about anything related to your spiritual journey. Your journal is for your eyes only, and you don’t have to worry about proper grammar, sentence structure, or any of the finer points of writing etiquette.
Here are 4 Benefits of Keeping a Spiritual Journal:
Personal Struggles
When you’re going through personal struggles such as bankruptcy, illness in the family, or job loss, it can often feel like you are alone on your own little island of personal despair. Writing down your personal struggles in your spiritual journal helps you clarify exactly what the problem is, and possible solutions. You’ll also realize that everyone has problems, and solving these problems will help you grow spiritually.
Express Gratitude
It’s easy to get so bogged down with problems, that you don’t realize how God is showering you with blessings. Express gratitude for these blessings every day, and I find that if I write down each blessing, my mood immediately improves as I bask in the glow of God’s love.
Spending Time with God
When you are on a personal voyage of spiritual discovery, you may have some questions for God that you need to have answered. What are you supposed to be doing in life? Why is God not answering your prayers? Writing down these questions in your spiritual journal helps you connect with God and you will realize that God always hears us, but works things out in His own time and way.
Bible Verses
God’s promises in the Bible can mean a lot to you as you go through life, and having Bible verses written down in your spiritual journal brings comfort when the going gets rough. My favorite Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time and place for everything under the sun.” I can remember many times that I wished God would hurry up and answer my prayer, but then I would remember this verse and I knew that I was on God time.
