IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES
Christmas has traditionally been an opportunity for families to come together to celebrate and catch up, but things can get really complicated when disputes arise and family members hurt each other. How many families have fallen apart because no one was willing to make the first move (or pay the price needed) to rebuild relationships and heal the hurts.
This poem first came to my attention at a funeral. I don't know who the author was, but it is a reminder that TODAY is the time to do something, because tomorrow may never come.
If I knew it would be the last time that I’d see you fall asleep
I would tuck you in more tightly, and pray the Lord your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time that I’d see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and a kiss, and call you back for more.
If I knew it would be the last time I’d hear you voice lifted up in praise,
I would video each act and word, so I could replay them day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare you a minute or two,
I’d stop and say, “I love you”, instead of assuming you know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share, not say,
“Well, I’m sure you’ll have so many more, so I can let this one just slip away”.
“For surely there’s always tomorrow to make up for an oversight
And we always get a second chance to make everything alright.”
“There will always be another day to say “I love you’s”
And certainly there’s another chance to say “Anything I can do’s?”
So, just in case I might be wrong and today is all I get,
I’d like to say how much I love you, and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you’re waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you’ll surely regret the day
That you didn’t take that extra time for a smile, a hug, a kiss
And you were too busy to grant someone what turned out to be their last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear,
That close to your heart, always, you will hold them dear.
Take time to say, “I’m sorry”, “I love you”, “Thank you”
And, “Please forgive me”, “It’s okay”, TODAY.
Because, IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES
You’ll have no regrets about today.

Jesus came as a vulnerable baby, and later went to the cross to die; all because He thought we were worth saving. May you be willing to do whatever it takes to bring PEACE and HEALING to your family this Christmas!
