"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." ~ Joshua 1:8
"So he answered and said to me:
'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts." ~ Zechariah 4:6
"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” ~ John 8:31-32
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." ~ John 15:5
"I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me."~ Philippians 4:13
An example of Christianity:
Take a glove, any glove. It can be a beautiful leather driving glove or a worn-out, stained work glove or any glove between those two extremes.
Lay that glove on the table. Is it doing anything? Is it moving?
Now pick up the glove and put it on. Your hand is now in the glove.
Is it moving? What can that glove do now, if not what you will?
The glove is as good as what is in it. The glove is capable based on how the wearer relates to that glove.
This is an imperfect analogy because the glove has no free will.
If we are God's glove we are glorifying Him when our will resigns to His, regardless of what we perceive or feel. What we are capable of is dependent on what/who we allow in. Is it God's Word and Spirit or something less?
We might be a lovely leather glove that lets in what does not honor the Lord, or we might be a worn-out, almost-useless glove that focuses on God's Word and Presence. Either glove has an opportunity to be like Jesus' glove.
When I do manual labor I might not need gloves. However working with gloves may make the work more enjoyable. God does not need us to do His work but it is more enjoyable when He works using us. Joy is doubled when we share it with each other. With the Lord it is no less true. He is jazzed to have a willing soul work with Him inside them, as if they were God's glove.
Think of it: G=God+love=Glove.
His love is made manifest through His hand in a glove-us.
Some people see God's commands as a kill-joy. He does not command to tie down or bind, but to free the one commanded. We are free to do His will because it was spoken to free and enable us. The Lord is an enabling Lord. When we respond to His Word by His Spirit we become the glove on His hand. The glove of the King; think of it.
Which glove are we?
