The Lord told King David that he wasn't going to be the one to build Him a temple because he had been a warrior and a man of bloodshed, so that his hands weren't clean enough for the work. It was however going to be built by his son Solomon, which was also an honor, an honor of a different kind. It is a God-given desire we have as parents that our children's achievements and successes will one day exceed our own. We can celebrate that when it happens. (However, for the first time since World War II, we are seeing before us a generation today for whom this is not as true as it has been in decades past.) Perhaps we have (or have not as much as we had hoped) helped to provide a platform for their accomplishments, as King David did when he gathered temple materials for his son Solomon. Our sons and daughters are not prospering alone, we also are prospering through them who have established themselves in their own identities but are also added extensions of ourselves. The Lord said to David, "You have done well in that it was in your heart to do." (to build the temple) That is significant. The Lord sees our hearts and knows our intentions and motives. When circumstances and situations over which we have no control (and that is key) prevent us from fulfilling all the good that is in our hearts to do, God says "You have DONE well." (2Chronicles 6 v.8) But we have done nothing, that's the point in some or many cases. Yet, because we had that noble intent, God who sees the heart considers it DONE. The internal counts more toward the eternal than we may realize. Before God action has been taken inwardly. It may not manifest outwardly and visibly to the human eye any time soon, but our Lord has perceiving senses that we lack, and we can rely on them. And that's cause for another "Hallelujah!"
