PREVIOUSLY IN THE MYSTERIOUS CITIES OF GOLD REVISITED...
A storm swept on the ocean. In the process of trying to hand Lionel a rope so they can get the ship to a dock, Stephanie fell into the churning sea. Ben dove into the water and saved her life through CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and to his and everyone else's surprise, Stephanie kissed him.
Stephanie slowly sat up on the deck, Ben holding the back of her head. "Are you all right, Steph?" he asked.
Stephanie nodded slowly. She felt weak, but she was glad to be alive. "Yes," she said softly.
Alexis bent down to help her to her feet. "Come on, honey, I'll take you back to your cabin and get you some graham crackers and water." She put her arm around Stephanie's shoulders and led her to her cabin. When they got there, she said, "All right, Stephanie, you just stay here and rest, sweetheart. I'll be right back."
"Thanks," Stephanie said. She lay down on her bed and closed her eyes. Before too long she found herself dreaming about wearing a white gown and walking down an aisle in a church to Ben, where the pastor pronounced them husband and wife.
Stephanie awoke and sat up immediately. Was she falling in love with Ben? She looked to her side and saw Ben sitting next to her. "Hey," he said softly. "I told Alexis and Lionel I would bring you this food. I wanted to make sure you were still all right."
Stephanie nodded. "I am much better now that you're here. Thank you, Ben. I wanted to apologize for all the cracks I made about your clothes and you being a geek and all and not giving you a chance. I now see that you are a kind, brave guy with Christ-like love in that you were willing to lay down your life when I was in danger. I've always wanted that in a guy."
Ben grinned. "You mean I'm your kind of guy?" he asked.
Stephanie nodded, and they kissed, then exchanged a hug.
Once Stephanie ate her snack, she felt well enough to come out of the cabin, so Ben took her hand and they walked out. When they got to the door they found out Matthew had been eavesdropping! "Love, exciting and new. Come aboard--we're expecting you! And love, life's sweetest reward. Let it float--it floats back to you!" he sang teasingly.
Ben and Stephanie laughed and shook their heads. "We know the rest," Ben said. "The Love Boat soon will be making another run," he sang. Then he exclaimed, "Take it, Steph!"
"The Love Boat promises something for everyone," Stephanie chimed in. Then she exclaimed, "Everybody now!"
"Set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance," they all sang, "and love won't hurt anymore. It's an open smile on a friendly shore! It's love! Welcome aboard, it's love!"
They all laughed. Alexis came over to them. "Kids, Lionel just found a dock," she said. "We're going to tie the ship up for the night and find a hotel to stay in. We were listening to the radio, and the forecasters say the storm will be over by tomorrow."
"All right," said Ben. When they got to the dock he took Stephanie's hand as they climbed out. Just then the deck hand noticed their bracelets. "So you're the two kids with the bracelets that open up the doors to the seven cities of gold?" he asked.
"Yeah," Stephanie said. "You know about those?"
The deck hand nodded. "I have been studying the medallions that Esteban and Zia used long ago and now the two bracelets. You have very special but dangerous bracelets. When you get to the cities of gold, just open them halfway. If you open them all the way, they have the power to make the buildings of the cities crumble to the ground."
Ben and Stephanie thanked him for his advice and agreed to follow it.
"Do you know where we can crash tonight, what hotels there are around here?" Lionel asked, yawning. "I'm getting kind of tired. We all are, and we'd love to get out of the storm."
The deck hand nodded again. "There's a Days Inn not too far from here," he said.
The travelers thanked him and took a cab to the Days Inn, where they spent the night. In the morning the storm was gone, and they resumed their journey.
