Dear God-tracker
GOD-TRACKING IS MOVING FROM THE DRY BROOK TO THE WIDOW’S JAR
The Prophet Elijah sat on a rock next to the dried up stream in the Kerith Ravine in the late afternoon sun. He watched and waited but the ravens did not arrive that day. He had followed the Lord’s instructions to make his way here after a few days prior, announcing that a drought would hit Israel. Since then the Lord had kept him alive by sending the birds with meat and providing water by the stream. But now the trickle of water had stopped and the ravens were silent. Just then the word of the Lord came to his prophet, “Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food." Without questioning God’s reason, Elijah wrapped his cloak around him and started out for Zarephath, though in his heart he might have pondered, “From a dried up brook to a widow’s jar? I hope God knows what he is doing.” You could say he was going from the frying pan into the fire.
At Zarephath Elijah found the widow. She had a son and, not only was she suffering the effects of the drought, as all widows were in those days, she was very poor. In fact, she only had enough food left for one meal for her and her son how in the world was she ever going to be able to feed the man of God? But the word of God comes again to the prophet and Elijah announces that her jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land. And so it was that she and her son as well as the prophet enjoyed an endless supply to their needs according to the word of the Lord.
You may be facing a future of drought today. It could be that you feel that you’re dropping from the frying pan into the fire. Perhaps you’ve been enjoying God’s favour but today you’re facing redundancy or you’ve been disappointed by someone you trusted. If that’s you then know this: he who called you is faithful and he will see you through to the end. He who began a good work in you will complete that work in his time and by his generous provision. So just as Elijah did when he moved from the dried up stream to the widow’s jar, put your trust in the guidance of the Lord God as you acknowledge him in all your ways and take him at his word. Do this and you can be sure that your jar will never be empty.

Don’t Give Up, Look Up! Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus! Today I put my trust in you and step out into tomorrow with confidence that you are there already
Pray: “O Lord sometimes I feel as though I’m falling from the frying pan into the fire. Although things were not ideal, I’ve known your blessing and provision but when I look at the future, somehow I have no idea how I will ever make ends meet. But then I remember how you provided for your prophet Elijah when his resources ceased. As you led him into the unknown you had already planned his provision. Even though it was through a most obscure an illogical means, you cared for him and met his needs, and the needs of those around him, too. Thank you Lord that you have my life mapped out and that you will meet all my needs according to your wisdom and your riches. Today I put my trust in you and step out into tomorrow with confidence that you are there already. Thank you Lord. Amen.”
