Sunday 12/15/13 Pastor Michael sermon SCANDAL:The Great Cover-Up part 1 II Samuel 11:1-9, 14-16, 22-27
===============================================================
Three years ago, ABC started a show called Scandal. The show takes place in Wash DC. It’s about people in political jobs and how they handle their scandals and keep their reputations. The main female character is in a scandal herself while she is supposed to be helping people handle their own scandals. It is amazing how some people will try to help you fix your scandal when they are doing it themselves. Some of us have done stuff, scandalous stuff and it was God’s grace that saved us and kept if from being publicized.
David is at a place in his life where God has blessed him and made him King. The scandal did not come to David until he was King. The devil will put stuff in your way to distract you. Don’t be tempted to stray away from what God had shown you. He that has begun a good work in you, God, will complete the work. The year 2014 will be your blow up year! Get excited! God will bring what He has promised you! He will do exceedingly, abundantly above all that He has promised us! God is getting ready to bring us into what He has promised us!
David’s life became a scandal because once God got him to where He had promised him, David got relaxed. Don’t relax. This is because every time God takes you to a new level, there are new devils! The higher you get, the closer you get to what God has for you. Don’t relax because the devil is going to try to stop you! Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen! God can cause favor to fall on you! Act like you are there already. Don’t wait till the battle is over. Praise God now! Shout like you got it! Praise the Lord anyhow before it comes! If God has shown you where he wants to take you but you don’t see how or have the money for it, don’t worry about it. God will take care of it. It is His problem. You walk in Faith!
David was out of position. All the kings went out to war and David stayed home in the bed, relaxing. You can’t get out of your position. Don’t let other people get you out of position either. You get all caught up in their situation, be arguing for them and they be sitting there all quiet, not saying a thing. Stay in your position! David was king and should have gone out to war when the other kings went out.
Three Mistakes David Made:
1) Complacent:
David got complacent with what God had already done for him. He was not thinking of any future blessings. We need to get in position, stay in our position and don’t get complacent or satisfied with where we are and think that is it. Be ready to take yours AND take everything else God has planned for you in the future.
2) Curious:
David got up and was curious about who the woman was that he saw washing herself. Had he been in his position as King in the wars, he would not have seen her. Then David looked again and he saw a beautiful woman bathing naked. His curiosity ensnared him and he wondered who she was. David lusted over her. His curiosity got him caught up in the mess. David’s servant told him that she was Uriah’s wife, but David didn’t care. He had her brought to him. David made this decision based on passion and they had sex. We, ourselves, have been with people we knew were no good for us. But…we got caught up in the passion.
3) Carnality:
The woman gets pregnant and sends David word that he is the baby’s daddy. David continues the scandal by sending for Uriah, her husband, to go be with his wife. Uriah did not go have sex with his wife so this could not be used to explain her being pregnant. Then David sends a letter for Uriah to be put up front in the battle so he will be killed in war. After Uriah is killed, David took his widow and married her. David thought it was all over with and that he had got away with it. Sin will blind you!
Just for a moment of sex with another man’s wife, David almost lost his kingdom! Don’t give in! Don’t let the enemy destroy your future! Get what God has for you! Don’t let what God has ordained for you be put in jeopardy, just for some passion! Whatever God has for you, you cannot compromise it for a thrill of passion!
**Don’t compromise!
**The enemy wants you to get side tracked by stuff!
**God has great things in store for you!
**Don’t let anything get you out of position for what God has for you!
**Get in position and stay in position for what God has for you!
AMEN
