Let us make a name for ourselves. Does this phrase make sense ? Just look around. Just read your local newspaper. Or better still, just attend one of your local, state or federal government public meetings or hearings. What happened to that old cliché, "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."(John F. Kennedy)
Yes,our American national election is now behind us.And it's time for us, as a country, to look ahead to the future, regardless if the election went our way or not. There will be major decisions to be made from a political perspective, in the future. But the most important decision, and one that we all can take part in, is the direction of our country from God's point of view.
You see, we Christians are not of this world or its system (Ephesians 6:12). We must take a stand, against the evils of the "Satan Orientated" politics (1 Cor 14:33).
We Christians must believe and follow the truth. This is what actually sets us apart (sanctifies us) from all the evils around us. We should never be a part of an evil world and its ways, customs and traditions.
Obviously, we cannot live on Mars or in a cave. Nor leave this planet earth or live as a hermit. Christ never meant for us to come out of the physical world. He meant that we come out of its evil system (Romans 13:1-7).
Don't be confused, however, we Christians are not told to fear the actual individuals in office, but rather the power they may hold. And these individuals are only powerful by the permission of God. It's really the power of God we should fear. You see, God has many times used the power of evil men, to effect His will (Daniel 2:21). Men may come to power in many ways, including nepotism, bribery, revolution, deceit, or even murder. However, these are all allowed by God, for His overall eternal purpose. We are just not privileged to see it now. .
So, how may we make a difference ? We would do good to take a lesson from history. The early church was in its early stages of development, by having to fight the political religious character ( Acts 4:1-7 , 6:11-15, 8:1 ) of the day. However, this new church received help, in the form of God's Holy Spirit. ( Acts 9:31)
If we Christians would only practicing the same church bylaws, as did the early church, ( Acts 2:41-47 ) we could turn this nation around for god.
In ( 2 Chronicles 7:14 ) God gives us a big "if" and a big "I". Yes, if we, as His people, will turn to him He will heal our land. If you will notice. However, God has left this promise rather open ended. In other words, it is just assumed that if we don't do the dictates of God, He will not heal our land. And if this be the case, what should we expect ?
From the very onset of human history up until now, we have many examples of the consequences of avoiding God's plans for our lives, individually and collectively. Is our country now a victim of this judgment ? Just look around. What about the unusual weather patterns, causing major property damage, and loss of lives (Matthew 24:7,39) ? What about all the civil unrest and lawlessness (Luke 21:35)? What about all the corruption in high places (Luke 21:16-17)? What about our government's attack on Christianity (Romans 8:7)? What about the financial meltdown? What about the negative restlessness among the citizenry ( 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 13) ? You be the judge, here.
The scripture gives many examples of this, starting with the major disobedience of them all, that has effected mankind forever. That being the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. ) Genesis 3:1-7 ).
This defiance against God continued at the tower of Babel, in which God stop their building plan by confusing their language ( Genesis 11:1-9 ) However, the heart of the matter is made clear in these words, "let us make a name for ourselves". ( Genesis 11:4 ). Is that same philosophy not still true in today's world. That of leaving God out of our plans. It would surely be OK, if our intention was to give God the glory for our accomplishments. However, by leaving God out of our preparation, as was the case at Babel, we as a country are treading on a rotten foundation.
And on-an-on we, down through the scriptures into our modern day culture. When God is left out of any preparation, Romans 1:28-32 ) be it government, business or personal, evil consequences begin to start occurring.
You see, we serve a Holy God and He cannot go against His written word. Neither can He tolerate evil. ( 1 Peter 4:17 )
So, how do we as Christians take a stand for the right and truth ? How do we face our rightful decision ?. Do we give support to evil trends ? And if so, does that make us sinners as well ? Or, if we resist these trends, are we not being good citizens ? This perfect God of ours not only knows our strengths but also knows our weaknesses. ( 1 Cor 10:13 ) If our decisions are made, in accordance with the scripture, God will not leave us. ( Jeremiah 29:11 )
God gives us a very specific direction, for all of these mind-sets, through the apostle Paul,. ( Romans 12:1-3 ) by telling us even though we are a part of this great country we should not give in to the dictates of evil.
In other words, we as Christians should love the sinner but hate the sin. We should be bold in the sinners presence by retaining our Christian witness, but never give in to the sinful dictates of the sinner..( Romans 8:7 ) You see, by virtue of the laws of nature, we Christian will remain in this world until God sees fit to take us home, either by death ( 1 Cor 15:50 ) or by the rapture.( 1 Cor 15:51) We just need a taste of the "old time religion", as judgment must begin with the churches (1 Peter 4:17).
So, just keep on, keeping on, by staying in God's word (2 Timothy 3:16), talking to Him in prayer (1 John 5:14-15) , and witnessing to others, when you can (Romans 1:16).

Everywhere today people are trying to make a name for themselves. In Hollywood, in the music world, in sports and entertainment as well as in Washington D. C. among our politicians. Even our religious leaders are often too self-aggrandizing rather than humble servants seeking to spread God's love to mankind.
Yes, I do think God is displeased with much of what is going on in the local churches (judgment must begin at the house of God first) and in the political arena.
Maybe God will bring revival before things get worse.
I'm reminded of that saying "it is always darkest just before the dawn."
