Deuteronomy 11:13-14
New International Version (NIV)
13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul— 14 then I will send rain on your land in its season,
Grace and peace be upon you my brothers and sisters,
There are those truths which I call foundational truths, they are the truths that we build our lives upon. The book of Genesis is filled with these types of truths like in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. In the book of Deuteronomy there are foundational truths there as well and in verse 13 is an example of such truth in this quote," So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul". This truth is stated in a form of a command. That is why in a previous discourse, I reminded the readers that "Obedience is better than Sacrifice." I was not referring to the obedience to the law of Moses nor the 600 plus Rabbinical laws that some follow in the Jewish culture. Nor was I referring to the legalistic system of law that some of us in Christian churches follow today. The law in which I was referring to is this law," to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul". Believers that are free from law recognizes that we are saved by grace therefore; when we refer to law we are talking about principles or instructions and not a legalistic systems of do's and don'ts. I consider this principle, instruction or law foundational," to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul." Why you ask? Because on this law offers," the blessing or the curse". 26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. (Deuteronomy 11:26-28). This is a foundational truths because it allows the readers to recognize we can choose whether our lives will be blessing or a curse. Whether or not we experience success or failure, whether or not we cross over to the promise land or stay in the wilderness. It is God's will for us to be blessed but it is your choice. Therefore, it not a matter if you are going to cross over to you promise land if you are a Believer in Jesus Christ but when. When will you choose to obey this foundational truth," to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul". As this was the key commandment for the children of Israel to enter their promise land, it is also key for today's Believers. Notice in verse 14, "then I will send rain on your land in its season....", which infers after obedience comes the blessing. Many of us want the blessing before we obey however; loving the Lord and serving him with all your heart and soul is the key to the bless life. Choose this day whom you will serve....will you obey or disobey...will it be the blessing or the curse?
