IS THIS THE TIME TO CHANGE?
Is this question refers to accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or does means that you are to change your service to the Lord. This is what is means. It can mean both or it can mean something all together different. In this case it means not the very principals of Christ’s teachings but in the method in which you serve the Lord.
This could refer to those who have faithfully served the Lord for many years and now have retired. Make this clear, that the Lord and your brothers and sisters appreciated the sacrifices you made for Lord over the years. The Lord, now, has brought you to a new evolvement which requires changing your attitudes, your methodology, and even a whole new ministry. You say that you are retired but the question does the Lord wants you to retired? You say that you have the right now just to have fun and let the young ones do the ministries.
Are you “stuck in the mud” and will not change? Are you afraid of social media, like facebook, not knowing that it is a perfect media to preach the Gospel? Is your Pastor or Pastors are progressive type, not only in the principals of God’s works but the methodology of bring the Gospel to the world. Are they using modern man’s technology or ideas to preach? Are “they going where no gospel have been?”
Remember that Jesus says in Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye
into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature “. (KJV) What did Jesus mean “into all the world” and what did Jesus mean “to every creature”?
To simply what Jesus means is to preach the Gospel to places that humans congregate together and today that also mean the social Medias. This what John Giles’ interpretation of that Scripture, “...not only into Judea, and through all the cities of it, where they had been before confined; nor only into the Roman empire, which is sometimes so called, because great part of the world was under that government; but into every known and habitable part of the whole universe, to all the nations of the world under heaven: and it is to be observed, that this command is not enjoined on every apostle separately, as if each of them was to go into all the world, and travel over every part; but that one was to go one way, and another his way; every one had his line, or that part of the world marked out for him, whither he was to steer his course, and where he was to fulfill and finish his ministry…reaches to all the ministers of the Gospel in succeeding ages, to the end of the world; and since this, one part of the world, which was not known, is now discovered; and the order includes that, as well as the then known parts of the world, and the Gospel accordingly has been sent into it. “ This what Matthew Henry says about this scriptures, “...to preach the gospel of Christ to every creature, to the Gentiles as well as to the Jews; to every human creature that is capable of receiving it. “Inform them concerning Christ, the history of his life, and death, and resurrection; instruct them in the meaning and intention of these, and of the advantages which the children of men have, or may have, hereby; and invite them, without exception, to come and share in them. This is gospel. Let this be preached in all places, to all persons.” You notice that he said “in all places”. In the Webster dictionary says that the meaning of place or places means “A particular portion of space of indefinite extent, occupied or intended to be occupied by any person or thing, and considered as the space where a person or thing does or may rest or has rested, as distinct from space in general. It is the portion of space that they are occupied for an indefinite extension. This is getting back to where humans congregate.
You may say that you are still doing the preaching of the Gospel but once again I am not talking the principals of preaching the Gospel but the methodology of preaching the Gospel and so far I made that clear. You may say that God is not calling you preach the Gospel over any of the social medias and that could be true but at the same time you may be ask to be part of this, as I called it, exciting new form of preaching Gospel. We are not only talking about “words over social medias” but other means of expressing God’s word; His teachings and His Son, Jesus Christ, who sacrifice Himself for our sins. We can make videos expressing our views about human conditions like the treatment of the elderly or the hunger of children which many died because of the lack of food or even why there are wars. This includes “round table discussion” and how God have heard “the cry of these who are suffering” and what God view about it. We may talk about what we can do though our Lord, Jesus. There are others means to express the Gospel and if God is calling you to do so; do it. If God is calling to be part of this, do it.
You may say that there is other means of preaching the Gospel; you are right and I will get to some of the other means. The reason I talking about it, now, is because this issue is one of fear. I been told some are afraid if they are part of a video that it may go “spiraled, negatively, to the entire world to see over something innocent. I have not seen anything that would spiral negatively over something innocent for this come from individuals who think their case was of a innocent nature. This is only one person opinion who have seen videos go spiral; they wanted it to go spiraled and it got out of hand by they own doing. There nothing wrong about wanted it go spiral as long it is for the right reason. Can any video go spiral; yes. Can it be negative and be embarrassed; yes. If God want that video up there to preach His gospel, it will be up there therefore it is the message of the video that is important and not the fear that individual place on it. God is saying to be careful and He will protect you from any negative impact. He saying to you to stop being intimidated and trusted in Him. In other word, have the right reason to make a video or be a part of the video; preaching the Gospel is one of the right reasons.
Fear is not the only reason; also having no interest in an issue. They may say that the information is already is on the “web”. My response to that is that is true but if the issue at hand is not an issue with them they will not go the web just out of gaining knowledge. When an issue doe affect them then they will. The problem is that the issue may affect them in the future and like Cancer or any other deadly diseases. Prevention is a knowledge that may help them not have those deadly diseases; this is where knowledge is a good thing. If an issue is important, we must bring it their attention and sometime more than once. There is a human’s saying, “if Mohammad will not go to the mountain, bring the mountain to Mohammad.” There have been many cases in which information was brought to human’s attention, something was done. You may say not everybody will bother with it and that is true and many will not listen; the Gospel is a good example. It is our job to preach the gospel for some of us will plant the seed, others will water but God will make it grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6 – NLT)
Why must we change? It is the ideal or pattern of humility that Christ commands us to do. It is our behavior that must change by having a modest humble manner that does not have an affecting dominion over others or treat other in a haughty and supercilious manner; no scorn or contempt of others. This will place them in a lowly state like a child; not envy of one another or having them set up above another person. This is the example that Jesus had set for all of us for we must look up to him. He did not do any on His own but look to the Father for direction and guidance; to teach what the Father had command Him. In this child-like state, we must change into a different person not only in our personality but also our obedience to Him. This is way fear come in or not having fear to the “things of the Lord”; to trust in the Father and in Jesus. If you truly trust in God there is no fear. If you trust in him to protect you then you know that he know every hair on your body, know where your heart is and know that you want to serve Him. You are more valuable than gold or silver when trust in Him is in you and you set your example in Jesus (Matthew 18: 1-3; Philippians 2: 1-11; John 12: 44-45 and Luke 12: 4-7)
Many may disagree with the ideal of fear or at least say they do not no fear changes in their lives but I found when there is resisting to change, there is fear. Does this mean that there have to use social media or the internet as one of the tools to preach the Gospel? No!! It means that you could be call to be part of it or at least to support the use of it. It means to listen what God wants you to do even when everything has change for you. It means to praise Him that His will is being done by others who have no fear of changing; to be at the forefront of this new and exciting methodology of preaching the Gospel.
Is this the only new methodology of preaching the Gospel? No!!! The type of Music to praise God also fears many. Many preferred the traditional hymns for they fear that any other type of music may offend God. The Scriptures tell us even not fear that for as long it is to praise God or to preach His word the Bible there is no fear of offended Him (Ezra 3: 10-13; Psalms 68: 24-26; Ephesians 5: 19-20)
There are many other new methodologies that we can use; some are new but others have been used for a while. This seems that we should not have fear in our approach in worship God and this is true; we may not always been this way for at one time for we all have fear of doing the Lord’s work. Something we hope for, we never received from the Lord and other things were trussed upon us and we did not know what God wanted what to do. This is where fear came in.
What was this fear? Was it the “unknown” or was it inability to change? This was never discussed for we simply move on and did what God ask us to do. The question is do we needed to discussed it as “hide sight” and was it a lesson for all of us to learn? Who knows except for our Lord? Was this “fear” was brought on by Satan, himself. We may each have our own opinion on the matter and I think each of us look upon ourselves what we did wrong and not to blame each other. The important thing is that we are bonded in love with each others and of Christ. Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 4: 1-3, “Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” The answer to the question, should we discussed it? I think it not necessary but just to admit the truth that fears can be an instrument of not hearing what the Lord have to say.
The question is, are we listening, first and doing secondly? Are we listening to the word “fear” and do what it says or listening to God and doing what He says? Apostle James talks about listening and doing. He says in James 1: 19-27, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for that it has the power to save your souls. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you”.
James says that human’s fear leads to anger, leads to filth and evil and leads to sin and does not produce the righteousness that God wants in us. Pure religion is the refusing to let the world corrupt you and having ourselves in sight of God the Father through His Son, Jesus.
Does this mean that we disregard the old methodologies? No!! In fact, the old methodologies and the new methodologies are “join at the hips”. One can not go without the other. It also means that not everyone will be involved with the new methodologies but must get involved with the old. The exciting part is that we have other means to preach the Gospel along side with the face-to-face preaching, the typical bible study and the messages on a Sunday. Turn your fear into excitement; listen and doing what ever the methods you use in preaching the Gospel and praising our God for the freedom we have.
