Catching the Wind
The wind comes from every direction. In today’s age we have professionals that can use satellites and computer programs that can tell us where the direction the wind will come from. Even with all the computer programs and the new technology it is still not 100% accurate. It is always changing.
We can now get a good idea on what way the wind will blow, but just knowing what way the wind blows won’t help us catch it. You can harness it, you can use the wind, but you cannot catch it. The wind will blow and the wind will stop. The wind can be destructive and it can also be used for good. In all of that, you still cannot catch it. Next time the wind is blowing strong go outside with a jar and lid, and as fast as you can allow the wind to go into the jar and quickly close it up. Now gather everyone you know and say you want them to feel the wind on their face. Get them to gather around you and quickly open the jar towards them all. Will the wind come rushing out? No, you will have everyone looking at you like your crazy. You can tell them all “I know I caught the wind, it was in this jar”. You caught some air, but not the force causing the wind. What does all this mean? Why such a pointless story. I’m filled with pointless stories just ask my kids.
Many are trying to catch, hold onto, or keep something that they will never be able too. Like when a dog chases its tail, it will run in circles all to catch something that caught it’s eye for a second. When or if the dog catches its tail, its content for a moment, and then it will go to the next thing that catches it eye. This is how several live in the world today. I think of the movie “Up” where the dog is talking about how the dogs master made the collar for the dog to be able to talk, and the dog then stops and turns his head and says, squirrel. Are you like this? Are you chasing after something that once or if you get it, it will just fulfill you for the moment.
What is the wind you are trying to catch? You can fill your time with Drink, Drug, being a busybody, gossiping, or to sum it up anything that does not drive you in a positive direction. Where will it lead you? What kind of fun are you looking to have? Is the fun you have all temporary, it fills the time with a temporary happiness, but when you wake up your seeking the wind yet again? When we were children we acted like children, we made choices without thinking past the choice; we did things without understanding the full damage of the choice we were / are making. As we get older we MUST let the ways of our youth leave our life and be focused on teaching others though our actions. Our actions are who we are regardless of whom we want to say we are, or who we pretend we are when everyone is looking. Who are you when no one is looking makes the difference of the truth of who you are, and who you are pretending to be.
“For you have been called to live in freedom my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then, you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the Law of Moses.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
The question is: Are you okay with being like this, or do you even know who you want to be? A better question is do you know who you are, or are you still finding yourself? Are you more concerned with how you are perceived than being the real you. Yes, perception can be reality in the eyes of others, but that does not mean that’s who you really are. Who are you? When your faith falters, do you seek God for help or raise your fist in anger? When you are confronted on your beliefs, on your actions, on your life, on who you love, what are your answers? Are they what you think others want to hear? Do you justify your actions right away, or do you stand firm in what you believe. This tells a lot about a person. If you stop in your quite place and come to the conclusion that you are not being the person you want to be, the person 0that you know God wants you to be, than make the change here and NOW. Do not wait for tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come.
“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love”
“Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”
Are you willing to give up a diamond for a rock? If you are its only because you have been blinded and cannot see the difference between the two, you don’t know, or care to know the value. If you open your eyes you will see that one is unbreakable and one is only a rock. The rock may shine but it’s not worth anything. The rock will always be a rock and will never be changed into a diamond. The diamond will remain one throughout the end of time. The real catch with a diamond is, its worth is of little value until its been properly cut. Look at your life as being the uncut diamond, and look at God as being the One to perfectly cut you in to the proper shape. Once you are cut and reshaped, your value increases. Your value to your family, to the world, to yourself, and to God Himself will increase.
The question is, are you willing to allow God to use His Word to cut you in the perfect shape. His Word says He is the potter and we are the clay. Now we just need to let ourselves be molded into who He wants us to be.
If we are so focused on catching the wind we will lose sight of what and who we are called to be. We miss our calling. We will always be seeking things that are never able to be held onto. Let's call the wind happiness. Happiness does not come from a man, a woman, a drink, a drug, or anything that satisfies a passing moment. You will mask the deep issue or the thing you truly need to seek by doing these things but you will never catch it. I have found that people will always disappoint you, that no matter what you do to try to do to ease the pain or run from the truth, the truth will always come out in one form or another. Have you heard the saying you’re stepping over a dime to pick up a penny, don’t fall for a penny that shines 0brighter for a dime that does not have that same surface shine, It’s shine is only on the surface, but its true value is on the inside.
Every day you look at yourself in the mirror. Do you look in the mirror and once you turn away forget what you look like. No, you know what you look like, but what if people could see your heart, what if they could see the “true you”. Would they see two completely different people? Some people work so hard to be someone they are not. I have always wondered why, it must be so exhausting trying to be someone you’re not. Be you, be the person God wants, and calls you to be.
If we live our lives as plastic people what are we teaching our children? Do not try to teach your children
something that you are not practicing yourself. I am currently a smoker and this is an area I must change! I must for my health, but at the same time, I need to lead by example and not as a hypocrite. God does His business with those that mean business. We put more time and effort into our work, our hobbies, and trying to catch the wind that we lose sight of who we are called to be and how we are to raise our children. Lead by example not by words. Words are good if you’re a man or woman of your word. However if you are a person of word only, you will quickly be discovered. All we can be is men and women of our word and if others can’t count on our word what good are we.
Who are you surrounding yourself with? Are they truly good people or do they do most of their fun after the sun goes down. I tell my children that nothing good happens after midnight. The saying the freaks come out at night, well seems to be true if you look at the world today. Enjoy life, but don’t run from it or mask it with something will only help for the moment.
Our thought life drives our actions. Where your heart is, is where you will be also. Why is this? Well, because the more we think about being or doing something, the more it will become. If you are always talking down on yourself “ I can’t”, “I won’t be able to”, these are all things that prevent you from receiving ALL the blessings God has ready in store for you. Speak positive things, “through Gods grace I can do all things”, “God’s favor is already shifting in my direction”. I encourage all of you look at yourself as someone of high class! Act this way and blessings will rain down one you. Be cautious, high class does not mean you shop at all the posh stores, it does not mean you look at everyone from the tip of your nose. No, it means you do all things out of goodness, out of love. Do not allow yourself to become someone you’re not called to be. Be strong in your thought life and work on you before working on others. We all have walked down wrong roads, but when we are following others down the wrong road and can’t see the danger in front of them. By doing this we have placed ourselves and our family in danger because we are blinded by seeking the wind or by following someone that is seeking the wind. Don’t become so focused on catching the wind we can’t see dangers that are right in front of us. You can say anything you want to try and justify your actions. Its fun, it’s nothing important, it’s not a big deal, it’s this or that, but in reality anything you need to justify is probably wrong. Allow God to direct your heart, and your hands and feet will follow. Close your ears to Gods Word and you will find yourself following the blind.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Stop trying to catch the wind, and refocus yourself. If your father was watching you, watching all you do all the time, ask yourself would he be proud. You have a Father that is watching all the time and knows your heart. He knows you by name and Loves your enough to let His Son die for you. What can we do to repay this gift? Love, and live in a way that would make Him proud to say "that's my son or daughter". Overcome evil with goodness, and be willing to stand apart from the world.
You know what is right, it's already in your heart. Many will not listen to what they already know is right but this does not have to be you. If you feel for a moment that what your about to do is wrong, STOP, and turn the other direction and get yourself back on the right path and don't look back! Always looking back or in your past will never allow you to see the beautiful things directly in front of you.
Ask Him for the answer to your question and He will provide it. Seek his direction and He will provide it. Knock on His door and He will open it with loving arms and embrace you.
The wind cannot be caught, once you stop being so focused on catching it, you will see clearly once again.
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”’
