2Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight (KJV). Our walking by faith and not by sight does not make faith blind. Faith knows where it is going because it receives direction from the One Who sees the ending from the beginning. People may be blind to faith because they refuse to listen to the Voice of God, for, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Granted, what most people mean when they say they are going on “blind faith” is that they are either trusting God in the circumstances they are in (which they do not understand), or do not know the end result of the direction they are going. Truthfully, that is hope. Meaning, God is their hope, and they will trust Him with what they do not see. That is a good thing!
Some will feel led to go a certain direction and will continue to do so for a long period of time. When they continue doing that same thing because they do not know what else to do, they will call that “blind faith.” Actually, until God gives new direction, that is pure faith, since faith comes by hearing. It is obedience to what was heard. Part of walking by faith is staying the course until the Lord says differently, or the course is complete. It will seem like “blind faith” when we put time constraints on the direction given. When it appears that a particular direction will never end, trust God and know that faith knows where it is going, even if you do not.
Nonbelievers often make comments that infer “blind faith.” For example, “You mean to tell me that you just follow blindly.” We have all heard, “That’s just blind faith!” Those who do not have the Spirit of God do not understand the things of God (see 1Corinthians 2:9-16). Therefore, they do not understand faith. The Word clearly says, “The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (Daniel 11:32, KJV). The reality is that if a person does not have a relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ and puts his faith in things other than God, he is the one with “blind faith.” Simply put, those who are blind to the truth, walk by blind faith. This is especially true of those who choose to be so.
It could be said that if a believer does something on his own, with no direction from God. As some would say, “I’m stepping out on faith,” that would be considered blind faith; otherwise, known as dead works.
