The Word of God
The Holy Bible is a BOOK that many posses and some cherish it by placing it on the night stand table left open with a rosary bead on it. Others have picture cards of certain saints in the pages of the BOOK. Still others hide their money in it because they feel that their untrusting relatives would not pick up the BOOK and steal their savings. We as believers tend to apply certain religious rituals or habits that we inherited by our parents or grandparents as to how we should honor and or maintain the Holy Bible in our possession. Many of these religious habits has nothing to do with what the Bible actually teaches about the care and practical way we should honor God’s Holy Word.
Hi Faith-Writers, I’m grateful to be back to share the Word of God with you as the Holy Spirit instructed me to teach about an interesting topic “The Word of God”. Yes, we all need to go deeper in the Topic of understanding how important “The Word of God” is to the believer and the Power it has to dramatically impact our lives and change it as we experience the promises in it and the principles that will lead us in God’s Perfect Will.
As a child I’ve been brought up with many different religious beliefs, such as carrying a piece of paper with a prayer on it for protection written in Latin…I’m a Puerto Rican who has trouble reading Spanish let alone Latin LOL…I would carry a small pocket size Bible hoping God would protect me…I also left the Bible open in the middle of the BOOK at some Psalm that I didn’t bother reading and trying to make sense of it…I also placed a red apple on top of it in hopes that it will please God…And there were more ridiculous things I did in the past not knowing what the Bible truly states about honoring His Holy Book… Does all this sound familiar? Are you doing the same thing? Then this teaching is for you!!!
The Goal
I’m not going to tell you that the King James Version is the best English translation. I’m not here to tell you that the King James translation has;
1. 66 Books
2. 39 Old Testament Books
3. 27 New Testament Books
4. 1,189 Chapters
5. 31,093 Verses
6. 773,692 Words
7. 3,586,489 Letters
I’m going to teach this topic more clearly and practically from a number of people that gave us greater insight in the Power of God’s Word which is needed today! Theologians who are into stats and historical context from the original Hebrew, Chaldean, and Greek will share this information with you when you purchase a new study Bible. Usually in the first few pages of the BOOK (The Holy Bible) it will give us all the information about “THE BOOKS’” origin and the nature of that particular translation. However, my focus is in what Jesus, Peter, Paul and David said in reference to the Word of God and how it impacted their lives as it impacted my life when I began to read it and apply it and experience the blessings in it.
Jesus and the New Believers
In John chapter 8, we have several different situations that Jesus encountered with the Jews;
1. John 8:1-11 KJV- we have the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery.
2. John 8:12-20 KJV- Jesus declares that He’s the Light of the World and we are to follow Him.
3. John 8:21-30 KJV- Jesus warns the Jews of unbelief and the consequence if they do not believe in Him. They would die in their sins.
4. The next thing Jesus spoke about to the believing Jews (as well as believing Christians today) is the POWER of GOD’S WORD;
So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, if you abide in My WORD [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. (John 8:31 Amplified Bible)
And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. (John 8:32 Amplified Bible)
The Breakdown
There is a lot to point out in these two verses;
1. Jesus said we must abide in HIS WORD—that is, receiving what He said and holding fast to it and living it out in our daily application of it to experience the blessings of God.
2. If we continue to abide (Live out His Word) then we are classified as His disciples.
3. Then we will come into Truth of what the Word of God says about any given topic.
4. And the Truth will set us free (from everything that is a lie or a religious practice that really holds no real spiritual value.)
Keep in mind that as we read the rest of chapter 8 in the Book of John Jesus keeps going back and forth with the unbelieving Jews about His authority, purpose, His relation to the Father in Heaven and so much more. The Jews were hung up on father Abraham while Jesus was trying to introduce them to Father God in Heaven. And that it was His Heavenly Father who sent Him to preach and teach about the kingdom of God but some were getting it and for others it just flew over their heads.
Jesus obviously knew that some would get the point of what He was saying and others wouldn’t, so to reinforce the Truth of what He was teaching He told them to CONTINUE in His WORD. By doing so, they will eventually come to understand what He said and then apply themselves to the practical principles He laid out.
The Word of God is Truth
Before Jesus was arrested He prayed a Powerful prayer in John chapter 17, in verse 17 Jesus prayed; Sanctify them by Your truth. Your WORD is TRUTH (John 17:17 NKJV).
The entire Holy Bible is the WORD of God. When we read it we will encounter TRUTH about what God had said in regards to any spiritual rule, regulation, principle or topic written in it. And the only way we can clean up, shape up, fix up or straighten out any spiritual kinks in our lives is by reading, obeying and living out the TRUTH of the WORD of GOD. It’s that simple.
Religion vs. Truth
We are told to continue to read the Word of God by Jesus (John 8:31-32 NKJV). So by leaving the Bible open on the night stand and placing a crucifix or an apple or a card with a picture of some saint is not what Jesus told us to do. Yes, I know the TRUTH hurts…but it also HEALS and sets us free from the religious practices that God never intended for us to practice.
Once we read the Holy Bible a lot of the things we’ve learned from our parents, grandparents, friends, and religious leaders will come to light of what WE ARE NOT TO DO. Then, the Holy Bible will reinstruct us on what WE SHOULD DO! The Bible did not say to carry it for protection. We are instructed to believe God for Divine Protection. Psalm 91 is David’s proclamation of God’s protection. We have to read it memorize it come to understand it and then believe it. Having it in a little card or piece of paper and keeping it in your pocket for protection is not what God intends for us to apply, (Unless you’re carrying it to practice memorizing it).
What David wrote in Psalm 91, are actual experiences of Him encountering God’s protection throughout his life during many challenges and dangers he had faced. If we read it carefully and understand the point he was trying to share we would come to understand this and not turn it into a religious prayer that we write on a piece of paper and carried in our pockets for protection.
I challenge anyone to read Psalm 91 again and consider what David is really proclaiming about God’s Divine protection and how he had experienced it. And consider how he shared it in the Psalm to enlighten us to the reality of God’s Divine Protection.
You see, a proclamation of what God already did for you is different from--a prayer for God to do something for you. David is sharing what God had already done for him in Psalm 91.
Jesus said, to pray in this manner…Our Father in Heaven, (Purposely skipping verses 10-12)…and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen (Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV).
What Jesus taught us about praying for protection is a whole different structure then what David had proclaimed in Psalm 91. The TRUTH will set us FREE from religious concepts (John 8:31-32 NKJV)
A promise that God will protect us is what we need to know. Isaiah 54:17 KJV says, No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; This Scripture in the Old Testament is a promise to us believers. God said through the mouth of the Prophet Isaiah that whatever weapon that is being formed right now with the intent to destroy us will not prosper. Therefore, we can make this a proclamation in our praise to God by saying, Lord we bless Your Holy Name we thank You for Your promise to us You said, No weapon formed against shall prosper! We therefore rejoice in the fact that You will protect us no matter what the enemy plots and plans to do to us. It will not prosper Hallelujah!!!
May God bless you with Divine revelation of His WORD so we may continue in it to gain more TRUTH and set us free from all the religious lies and practices in Jesus’ name amen.
