The Road They Took Then
They turned their eyes to look upon Egypt for their help rather than focus on the promises of God that had given them the world and all that was therein. We too are beginning to look to the left rather than the right for what we want. God has given us all sufficiency what we need in the earth as a people to live. We like the Israelites fail to realize that all of our help comes from the Lord.
Isaiah 31:1-3 woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither see the Lord. Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words; but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men and not God; and their horses flesh and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
What was down in Egypt? Sin! Sin is a transgression of the law of God, disobedience to or violation of the divine commands; moral depravity; iniquity; wickedness; unrighteousness; and ungodliness. It includes not only actions, but neglect of known duties; all evil thoughts, words, acts; and all that is contrary to the law of God. Willfully committing sin deprives the soul of God’s divine grace that takes us from strength to strength. That same grace lays a pathway of light for us to follow.
In the world we live there is a rise and fall of sin. There is flesh on parade everywhere. What in hell do we want? Egypt is a place representative of sin in the Word of God. Egypt held Israel bound and imposed many things on them. Israel God’s Chosen People was representative of the righteousness of God. They prevailed with God. Through Israel were all nations to be taught the laws of God and His purpose to redeem man from sin, and to establish His kingdom of righteousness on the earth. This purpose was not to be thwarted, if Israel sinned they would be punished, but not destroyed. Obedience brought forth blessings and sin brought forth punishments when they were faithless. These things happened and were written for our admonition.
Isaiah 40:6-8 the voice said, Cry, and he said what shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field; the grass withered, the flower faded; because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth but the Word of our God shall stand forever.
Sin is on the rise! We can look around and see that flesh has risen to a new level. Flesh what is that? Flesh is what came alive when Adam the spiritual man died. In other words flesh is an entity that we now have to deal with because of disobedience. We must be adamant or diamond hard when it comes to the sin of the flesh that we will not be a participant of such things that will take us away from God. Adam didn’t know the action of what would happen if he ate of the tree in the midst of the garden but we know the consequences of our sin. Adam was a lively spiritual being put in a body of flesh made of the dust and water of the earth. He was perfectly carved and manicured to God’s perfection. What happened to this perfection? Disobedience!
God don’t want another book wrote He wants obedience. He wants the flesh brought under subjection to the Spirit of God. He wants man simply to say yes I love you Lord and I will obey your Word. God wants his spiritual being back. God wants His Spirit to reign in the hearts of men. Even in the Church now there is too much flesh on parade. The Church today is a battlefield of the stars. Sin rises and falls with the stars.
Flesh is the material body, as distinct from the soul or spirit. All beings possess flesh; man and animals as well. God who is Spirit and created man the same saw that man in his likeness of Him could not keep the earth God had created. In other words a spirit don’t need soul food, light, day or night, shoes, clothes, or any such thing of the earth. But to work the earth man had to be an earthen vessel. What a waste the earth would be if there were no one to do the upkeep. The flesh rose with Adam but died with Jesus. Jesus laid the flesh down with obedience to the Word of God. It’s the same way in man’s life; in the day you hear the Word harden not your hearts but obey it. To obey is better than sacrifice. Fire burns flesh and flesh burns with fire. We have to control the appetites of the flesh; how do we do that?
Matthew 16:15-17 He saith unto them, but whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed art thou Simon Barona; for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
We need to catch the revelation of what we are trusting in. Flesh is human nature, deprived of the Spirit of God and dominated by the appetites and obeyed by the mind. This is why we need to be led by the Spirit of God. We don’t know our weaknesses as God does. We know we can come out but how we have to depend on God. If we don’t depend on God to help up then we die in sin. How can a living God help someone who is dying in sin unless they come and want His help? He is a gentlemen; God doesn’t force himself on no one. To know Him is to Love Him, to love Him is to keep His Word and to keep His Word is to obey. God know those that are his and He also know when we are contemplating sin in our hearts. He knows when we sin as well as if we will sin. There is nothing hidden from God because He is God.
God is always looking and the angel is always writing in the book. God don’t forget our labor of love and He don’t forget when we sin except we repent. God admonishes us through His Word to be obedient to Him and them that are your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling in singleness of your heart as unto Christ. If Jesus Christ didn’t do it, don’t do it. There is too much eye service going on; everyone wants to be seen of men that they be pleased not God. The Will of God is done from the heart of man; the inward parts. Salvation is an inside job that works to the outside. We are to do good will doing service to the Lord and not to men; knowing that whatsoever good thing any man do, the same shall be received of the Lord.
If we know we have sinned, repent quickly and say no to it when it shows up again. This is how we get power over the sin. Pick up the Word and see what the Word says about what we are doing and stand on it. We gain strength and can be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. We have to put on Christ that we may stand against sin. Christ has died once for sin and has given us a choice again; to do or not to do. We are without excuse. The human nature of Adam has to die. If we don’t pick up on the revelation of what sin does we will never be free and all that Jesus Christ did would be in vain for our lives. We live to bring forth fruit of holiness unto the Lord. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know you not that we are baptized into Jesus Christ death and He died with no sin yet he took on sin that we didn’t have to sin anymore? Jesus Christ has made us free from the law of sin and we have been made free from sin and became the servants of righteousness.
Don’t let sin reign in your mortal body that we should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Because we are under grace and not under the old law sin should not have dominion over us. When we cross a bridge we don’t back up on it and go across again; we have to go to the other side. It’s the same way with God, when you give up your sin we don’t go back to it. The way we come out and stay out is never to look back. Looking back brings the desire to do it again with it. Sin is to death as obedience is to righteousness.
We don’t have to be the servant of sin; obey God’s Word from the heart and receive those things that have been delivered to us as righteousness. Be the servant of righteousness. Sin makes us shame or at least it once did. The flesh is making so much noise today. It’s kicking and screaming please get this junk out of me! Our fruit as Christians should produce more fruit unto holiness. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord; we are going to get rewarded one day. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members, but now we are delivered from that human nature. We have stepped over into the newness of life; serving God in Spirit and in Truth!
We have to deal with this meat we live in and make it subject to the Word of God. We can no longer continue to live by human nature. Sin was birth forth by one man but was destroyed by another; the second Adam, Christ. God is the God of the spirits of all flesh so don’t we ever think that He don’t know what we are going through. He created all things good but man made it bad. There is in God no bias, no connivance at wrong and no excessive rigor. To His justice must be related both His threats to evildoers and His promises of reward to well doers. Is our flesh making noise? What are we going to do about it? Will we come to the Lord and allow God to reign in our hearts> Will we give all diligence to do the will of God? Make the choice today we don’t have to walk around barren and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. We don’t have to be blind concerning the flesh and sin.
