Life Is Not About Things
Did not God make man last? Was not everything here for man when God put him in the Garden? Was not that the purpose for him being there in a flesh body to keep what was already there? Then what is wrong with us that we run behind things like they are the most important? God forbid we follow after the rudiments of the earth.
God made provision for us in the beginning. Running after the provision that was there is what got man in trouble in the first place. When are we going to wake up, Church? God has sufficiently made everything we need available to us but man is never satisfied. If we have a covering over our heads, food to eat, and coverings for our bodies we should be satisfied. A many people don’t have what they basically need in this world a lot of the times. But when you talk to them they are grateful to be alive.
Matthew 6:33-34 but seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself, sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Genesis 6: 1-6 and it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them to wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh; yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Why did God repent for making man? Why did God destroy man, not the earth? Man’s heart was evil continually, the wickedness of man was great in the earth and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was evil. God said he would destroy man whom he had created from the face of the earth; both man and beast and the creeping thing and the fowls of the air; for it repented him that he made them. But there was one man that found grace in the eyes of God and his name was Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations and he walked with God. Was Noah perfect? No. So why do we today try to make men think that we are perfect? Some of us are so messed up in our mind! We do however strive to walk as perfect as we know how before God and man.
God looked upon the earth and it was corrupt, all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. The end of all flesh had come before God for the earth was filled with violence at the hands of men. God told Noah to make an Ark that the remnant that was on board would be spared. God is calling for the Church, the remnant to prepare for the floods to come. Make ready, prepare for the Day of the Lord. The flood has again come up before Him and he is once again calling for us to prepare the way of the Lord. For when Jesus come we too will be lifted up above the destruction in like manner; as Noah was in the Ark. As the waters fell forty days and prevailed the water was increased exceedingly upon the earth. The hills and mountains were covered but were not consumed. We worry about stuff that is perishable.
Noah built an Altar unto the Lord after God delivered them to dry land again and offered to God burnt offerings and the Lord smelled a sweet savour and said in his heart I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake for the imaginations of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease (Genesis 8:80-22). God in Genesis 9:1-15 made a covenant with Noah not to destroy the all flesh again. He reestablished his covenant with man as he first gave them instructions in the beginning. He blessed Noah and his sons and told them to be fruitful and multiply that they replenish the earth with humans. God gave all things into their hands to take care in the earth. He provided food for them and once again gave them instructions of what they could eat and not eat. Every moving thing that lives in the earth shall be meat for you He said; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. In the Garden of Eden God told Adam not to eat of the tree in the midst of the Garden and called it the tree of knowledge; good and evil. God required of them their blood; we are our brother’s keeper. We are not to shed man’s blood. That life belongs to God. God told them to be fruitful and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth and multiple therein.
Why are we worried about things that we have which can perish when souls are dying daily? We are responsible to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every man, woman, boy and girl. Their souls are required of God from their youth up. How horrible is it to hear of a child being killed, a little boy or girl? How horrible is it to be your own child, husband or close kin? It’s time we take a good long look at the world and see that mankind is dying of other means as well in sin. God has made a covenant with us also. The covenant didn’t stop with Noah. It flows down from Noah and still is required of us today. The world is wicked and full of evildoing. Genesis 9:11, and I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth. Man is destroying man themselves. We take the token God has made with us for granted.
We are deceived on every turn because we run after things rather than the Creator of the things! Life is not about things! Some things we are not to partake of for they carry us off to be cursed by God. Noah partook of the fruit of the vine he planted and was drunk by the wine. He was uncovered and looked upon by his son Ham, the father of Canaan who told his two brothers. They did not look upon their father but went in backwards with a garment and covered him. When Noah woke up from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him, he cursed Canaan to be servant of servants to his brothers. Noah sons were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They multiplied in the earth and families for generations were built. These families were divided in the earth after the flood in their own lands and nations. But God’s Word was still his Word; REAL!
The whole earth was of one language and of one speech. They journeyed and found a place and dwelled there. They made brick and burned them thoroughly and they had brick for stone, and slime for mortar. They built a city and tower whose top may reach unto heaven and were scattered upon the earth each one that they would make them a name (Genesis 11:1-4). God came down to see what they had done and said Genesis 11:6-8, and the Lord said, behold the people is one and they have all one language and this they begin to do and now nothing will be restrained form them, which they have imagined to do. God to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city. When man will run after the things of the earth more than God, God will confound their language where they don’t understand one another. We have a serious language barrier in the world today. No two nations can come together almost on anything! The Church is not together on all things and they are supposed to be built upon the Word of God!
People today even run behind things in their human sexuality. They used objects God never intended and they used partners God never intended. Terah Abraham’s father had three son; Abram, Nahor, and Haran and Haran his son begat Lot and Lot was Abraham’s brother by his brother (Genesis 11:27, 31). We are a messed up people for we are all family of one family. Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law; his son Abram’s wife and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. God had told Abram to get out of his country and from his kindred out of his father’s house. He told Abram to go to a land that he would show him. He told Abram that he would make him of a great nation. We are the sons and daughters of Abraham by promise. Abraham just obeyed God. He too built an Altar unto the Lord and called upon the name of Lord. Abram found a famine in the land he went to and went down into Egypt.
But Abram fell short in that when he and his wife went to Egypt he said to his wife Sarai to lie to the King that she was his sister that they would not kill him. He told her that his soul shall live because of her. When they came into Egypt the men looked upon her for she was very fair. They took her into Pharoah’s house and Abram was entreated well for her sake but God cursed Pharoah’s house with great plagues because of Sarai. We must do what God says and do it right. Pharoah called Abram and asked him what is this that he had done to him and why did he say she was his sister. Even the Pharoah knew you don’t cross God with lies. (Genesis 12:18-20). He sent Abram away saying behold thy wife; take her and go thy way and he sent them away with all that they had out of Egypt and Lot with them. Abram was rich in cattle, silver and gold.
He came back to the place called Bethel where his tent had been at the beginning; the place of the Altar. It was not about the things he had acquired, but God. Life is not about things. It’s time we too go back and regain that place where we first started with God and see his goodness and love. It’s time we stop focusing on the things we have and thank God for our lives. Abram could have lost his life and his wife trying to acquire things outside the will of God. Our will must be the Will of God otherwise we place our lives in jeopardy not of the King’s wrath but God’s. We need to separate ourselves from some things. Abram called on the name of the Lord in Bethel. His brother Lot also had great substance so that the land was not able to bear them that they might dwell together (Genesis 13:6). There were strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite. Sometime God blesses us with plenty and we can’t get along because of things.
We lose sight of God and when one realizes what is going on the other has become disgruntled. Abram told Lot to not let there be no strife between the herdsmen of the two of them for they were brothers. He said they needed to separate themselves from one another. There was enough sufficient for both of them but their problems arose out of someone else. We have to watch them dogs that come along to uproot our happy fellowship. The Devil seeks to tear up homes; marriages; husbands from wives, children from parents, Church leaders from the flock, the flock from one another and much more division in the leadership of countries. He wants a foot hold in our lives where we seek for things rather than God. He wants us to deny God for the things He has blessed us with. He wants us to put our eyes on natural things rather than the spiritual things of God. We must however decide if we will separate ourselves from Satan’s grip. We are God’s people yet we allow him to run rampant in our lives because we look to the wrong things.
We are to first seek the Kingdom of God and all things will be added unto us. Keep focused! We must die to the flesh for the flesh will kill us spiritually and naturally. This is what got man from the beginning in trouble and so goes us today. The only thing we are to be concerned with is that things are going to get better if we hold to God unchanging hands!
