He said, “ Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”
St. John 21: 6 ( Ver. NIV)
This is a message which has universal relevance. God speaks to every one of us to all the time. His interference and direction is at work, in our lives that make a difference!
We fish; we do everything without any rest, with a lot of strain but mostly in vain. No results. We often get frustrated. We ask ourselves why Lord, this is happening in my life, in our lives.
But have we ever bothered to ask him for direction? Or have we listened to him?
After the crucifixion and resurrection, disciples were still not convinced about the direction in which they should move. For them Guru is no more with them. Holy Spirit is not yet upon them. Some of them might have thought of going back to their old profession of fishing. And on that day morning, while Peter was going to fish, others, Thomas the Didymus, Nathanael, sons of Zebedee and two other disciples, also followed him. “ So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore visited them while disciples could not recognize.
It often happens to us. The resurrected Jesus is with us, constantly giving directions, guidance to us, in our lives to move ahead in the right path. We won’t recognize his voice. We ignore him.
Two messages are here. We need to recognize his presence. Also, we must listen to his directions.
When we do that we would be abundantly blessed with peace and happiness. Our talents, skills and life itself would find its meaning and would be fulfilled.
On an earlier occasion, as we read St. Luke 5: 4, Jesus telling Simon Peter, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” In 5: 6, we see, “ When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break”.
Are we ready to listen to his voice? God has blessed all of us with skills, talents and knowledge. We are blessed so abundantly that cannot be measured even. Human potentials are unlimited. Each one of us has got potential that need to be directed in the right path.
But we are often not ready to go deep and fish. Identifying our skills and talents would need Jesus’s help. Jesus can help us where to fish and at what direction, how deep and where!
Let us listen to Jesus and ask him to intervene in our lives so that our potentials are unleashed and get blossomed.
