“BETRAYED” by Janet Kelly
Matthew 26:21 “And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.”
The word betray has an ugly sound doesn't it? It means to be disloyal, to deliver to the enemy and to disappoint the hopes or expectations of others.
Have you ever been betrayed by someone you trusted? Maybe it was a spouse who cheated on you or a friend who broke a confidence. These are the things that hurt us to the very core of our being.
That is what happened to Jesus. He had spent 3 ½ years cultivating a relationship with these 12 men who sat with him at the last supper. These were men who were hand chosen by Christ. They had traveled together, lived together and shared personal, intimate details of their lives.
I would venture to say that they were about as close as any group of friends could be. But everything was not as it seemed. One of these men they all knew so well, or thought they knew, had one sharp dagger he was about to use. With a kiss to the cheek of Jesus he delivered a sharp blow to the heart. What pain Jesus must have felt! Betrayed by one he loved!
“Oh Judas”, we say, “how could you” ? But aren't we guilty of betraying our Lord on a daily basis? Jesus forgive us for the times we hurt you by our betrayal!
