Church Boy Syndrome
The Church as we know it is suffering from the Church Boy Syndrome. You will say now; what does that supposed to mean? Well since the AZUSA Revival a lot has happened. At that time a lot of sacrifices were made that man would come to know God in a more significant way. Man was willing to make the sacrifices but now everything seems to be on easy street and man don’t make sacrifices they take.
The Church is a collective body of believers or what we call Christians. When Jesus came on the scene there was a Church in place among the Jews too. This Church was supposed to be the called out people separated from the Gentiles. It had been set even in Eli’s time. I heard a message once from a former Pastor about Pastors having the Eli syndrome where they did not deal with the sin of the people as Eli did. Eli had sons that had been in the temple and did what they wanted to do. They sinned in the temple with no respect to God or even their father who was the high priest. Eli was of the family of Ithamar. His sons came to dishonor and his family consequently, to a low estate. Therefore God had to set a new high priest in place. He gave Eli a chance of redemption by sending him Samuel to instruct. Just because a son is in the Church does not mean they are the chosen of God.
I Samuel 2:12-13 now the sons of Eli were sons of Beliah, they knew not the Lord. And the priest’s custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a flesh hook of three teeth in his hand.
How can children brought up in the Church, there every time the church door open, being taught at home, and children of the Priest not know God? They knew the procedure of Church work and doings but never applied their hearts to it. They were going to be there anyway but for the wrong reasons. These boys abhorred the offering of the Lord. They hated being made to do what they did not want to do. The only thing they enjoyed doing in the house of God was to search out fresh meat to lay with not sacrifice. Eli sons were wicked. They were born of the Church but was never born again. The confines of their hearts were filled with trash.
They were not men of piety and spiritual discernment nor were they wholly dedicated to the realization of God’s purposes for Israel. They did not have the ability to guide the people of Israel spiritually or through the many crisis that would come to them. The Church is supposed to be of all that is saved. What happened to these boys? They had the Church Boy Syndrome.
The Church Boy Syndrome is when someone was just raised up in the church and kept the traditions of men but care little for the Order, Ordinances, and Obedience of God. The Church signified that there is an entire body of believers that exist on the inside of the building. In the Church as we know it today seem to be steering off again in the wrong direction than when the first outpouring of the Holy Ghost at the first Azusa meeting.
The Bible was believed to be the Word of God, we believed in God, the Father Almighty, the Author and Creator of all things. We believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second person in the Godhead of the Trinity in Triune Godhead. Jesus was and is eternal in His person and nature as the Son of God and was with Him in the beginning. The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. We believe today that the Holy Ghost proceeds from the Father and the Son, is of the same substance, equal to power and glory; and is together with the Father and the Son to be believed in, obeyed and worshiped. So if this is the belief of the believer why have the operation of these beliefs being taught? Over the television and radio usually is more foolishness than the truth of God, who He is and what He expects of us as believers.
We are falling into that same Church Boy Syndrome Eli’s sons was in. Well I went to church! I don’t miss church! But where are we taking the Church of Jesus Christ? Jesus came and set God a Church in the earth to bring the people back to God once and for all. Jesus called us to come out from among the world and be separated; making a difference in the world that the world might be saved and desire the God of a people that yearned for Him serving Him in Spirit and in Truth. Jesus asked the question “who do men say that I am”. Peter answered naturally and spiritually but it was the spiritual answer that Jesus responded to.
Matthew 16:18 and I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
That rock was the revelation of knowing who Jesus was and what He came to do, and getting the work done. Jesus taught them how to men of valor, or honor, peace and how to endure to the end. Jesus put all things under his feet and He was given by the Father to be the head over all things to the church. The Church Boy Syndrome was gone at last. Jesus fulfilled all things and taught us how we ought to behave in the house of God. Many forget that Jesus is the head of the Church. They no longer want to reference him as Lord before the local congregation of saints. The Prophets and teachers are not portraying Christ as they should more than themselves.
Colossian 1:18 and he is the head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead: that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Acts 28:30-31 and he abode two whole years in his own hired dwelling and received all that went in unto him, preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, none forbidding him.
Acts 8:12 but when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ they were baptized, both men and women.
Hebrew 3:6 but Christ as a son, over his house, whose house are we if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope firm unto the end.
I Timothy 3:15 but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
The Church is the Temple of God; a Spiritual building. We are to teach how one is to enter into the house of God. The Church is a place of spiritual reverence. We are to come in with a heavenly mind; lively stones built up a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. The Church had its beginning, an establishment on the first Pentecost after the resurrection. Jesus said He would build his church and He left us power; the Holy Ghost. He told the disciples in Acts 1:8 but ye shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you, and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. God delivered us first from under the power of darkness, taught us His Word and empowered us to empower others. Many of the Church Boy Syndrome doesn’t worry about no one but themselves. They don’t witness, share the Word, or confess to have receiving the Holy Ghost. Most never except Christ as Lord over their lives because they came in the world a PK and feel they are already saved.
True they are born in the Church but they are not born again which is a requirement of salvation. Peter said in Acts 11:15-17 and as I began to speak the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized in the Holy Spirit. If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, that I could withstand God? We have to release to others what God has imparted in us. We do this through the will of God. Christ Jesus has called us to be sanctified as He is and then we are being called Saints or Christians. We are to call upon his name. Jesus referred to the church as his. He purchased the church with his own blood; it belongs to him according to Acts 20:28.
Our hearts desire and supplication to God is that man be saved, that they present their bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God which is our spiritual service. II Peter 1:10 say we should give more diligence to make your calling and election sure for if we do these things we shall never stumble. Our relationships with man should be different than their relationships in the world. When we have been baptized in Him we rise to walk in newness of life; for we are a new creature. We have a birth in the water and the Spirit so that we are able to enter into the kingdom of God. We have been washed, regenerated, and renewed in the Holy Spirit. It’s not by anything that we have done in righteousness of ourselves but according to the mercy of God that save us.
Now we have been buried with him in baptism and can be raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised Jesus from the dead. Now that we are saved through the will of God, and sanctified it’s time to hold fast to our salvation and preach the gospel of the one we say we love so much. The power that works in us makes us worthy to be called Jesus’ disciples of today. The Holy Spirit dispels the Church Boy Syndrome. No longer is there church as usual of if they decide that they want to stop service or not because of a particular day celebrated in the world. Who is to say that someone would not have given their life to Christ that day? The Church Boy Syndrome has a system with many flaws and abnormalities and they use signs on a concurrent basis. They arouse flesh and emotions in man rather than the Spirit of God. They draw people to them rather than God. They are an idolatrous people with an identifiable pattern of pride.
Because my daddy was a preacher don’t make me a preacher. Why take on roles that we have not been called to? When we do we destroy God’s precious people for they are dying within. It’s time out of the Church Boy Syndrome!
