"The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light". ( Romans 13:12)
I don't remember much about World War II, as I was but a little tot. And, I don't remember the Korean Conflict, as well. Then, when our nation became heavily involved in the Vietnam War, I had grown into other interest, such as my lovely wife.
However, fellow Christians, we are now in the war of our lives, that being against Satan himself. Unlike our previous wars, in this one, it is very difficult if not impossible to distinguish the enemy. For you see, this enemy doesn't wear a uniform or carry a gun. This enemy may be your next door neighbor. Or, even be a fellow church member. The scriptures tell us that often times this spiritual enemy is unseen.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places". (Ephesians 6:12)
So, we must put on the whole armor of God, because if we go into this unseen battle field unarmed, we will surely taste defeat.
" Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes". ( Ephesians 6:11)
You see, the objective of this scripture is to enable you to stand against the wiles of the devil; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour". (1 Peter 5:8)
So, how do we approach these satanic forces. I'm a firm believer that Satan doesn't normally go after the likes of most of us. You see, he is not like God. He can't be everywhere at once, so he mainly concentrates on what I call "are the biggies". People of influence, such as kings, prime- ministers and presidents.
However, some people confirm that according to the scripture, when Satan fell from God's grace, he took a third of the angels with him. So where does this information come from? Does the Bible support it? The book of Revelation provides the best answer to these questions.
"Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads.
His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him". (Revelation 12:3-9)
It stands to reason then that these demons are prevalent in the world, doing Satan's bidding.
With this in mind, the two main weapons we have against Satan's war are prayer and scripture.
Remember when Satan tempted our Lord in the wildness, Jesus was sustained by these same two objectives. Please review Matthew 4:11.
With God's help we can win this war. We have Christ Jesus, sitting at the right hand of God, ever making intersession for us.
” who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.( Romans 8:34)
And we have the Holy Spirit, convicting us of our sins.
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you". (John 16:13-15)
So, beloved, let us put on the whole armor and go to war. In today's world, more than ever before, we need to have the victory.
Just sing this old chorus with me.
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him,
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood
AMEN !
