Are there any limits to what we can believe in? Any obstacles in our way, in our faith journey? How can we recognize these and what can we do about them?
As humans, we can sometimes limit our own belief by doubting God in all his glory and definitely by denying ourselves his companionship. It’s almost as if we challenge him to prove himself. Job made this mistake and some of us continue to do this today.
You’d think we’d take comfort in him. How many of us, only call on him when we need something? What a sad way to treat our Father. We must remind ourselves that he is the Creator. He makes the rules. We are his children. If we continue to be rebellious we may lose what we are seeking by our lack of understanding. He never deserts us but we can desert him by our apathy and neglect.
He always calls us to come back home. Where is home? God is home. Most of us grew up in a home so we know, at least partially how it feels.
God’s love is perfect and he loves us unconditionally. What else could we ever desire? Sometimes we search for love in all the wrong places. We get caught up in the world and think we can find it there. This fact is true. We will always be disappointed by what the world can offer us.
We need God. He is the only one who can give us complete happiness. When we learn this we will be on the road to spiritual enlightenment. Nothing can replace him. We may have to learn this the hard way. If we touch with the fires of Hell, we will get burned.
Angels exist to show us the way. As messengers of God, they know the way home. They are always there with their messages of love. We can feel them with our heart but if we harden our hearts, how can they minister to us? We all have free will and we can turn away…to sin, to self indulgence...to pathetic imitations of love.
God knows us each by name and he respects us enough to let us learn all the lessons in life, that we need to learn. Certainly he will understand and forgive us our mistakes. But we need to learn from our mistakes and not keep repeating them over and over again. This is the hard thing. If we become too proud and think we know it all, we may lose our way. We should pray everyday that we will be able to stay on the right pathway.
Our world is meant to be enjoyed but in the right way. We have friends and family which we must love and respect but our love for God must come before everyone and everything. There is no magic in the world except God’s love. Everything we do, we should do for him.
If you are doubtful, anxious or confused, seek him out. Only in him is there peace and comfort. Make a difference in the world by your belief in his greatness. Be willing to follow his guidance. Remember the old clique “Father knows best?” He actually does and the beginning of understanding and wisdom comes from him. Our God is awesome and he loves us as no one else can.
