THE HOLY SPIRIT-WHO IS HE?-- WHERE DID HE COME FROM?-- WHAT DOES HE DO?
"But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law" (Galatians 5:18)
" But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law". (Galatians 5: 22-23)
If we live in the Spirit, let us walk in the Spirit.( Galatians 5:25)
Have you ever felt uneasy about coming in contact with another Christian, whom you may have met in person or who you have met by radio or TV?
God's Holy Spirit, known as the Comforter, stands ready to reveal God's truths to your spirit. In other words, just as the scripture relates, we are to examined others spirit. And when we do, the Holy Spirit will let us know the truth.
"The spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children. Now if we are children then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if needed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory". (Romans 8:16-17)
Sometimes we find ourselves, doubting God’s love, feeling all alone without God or, wondering if God really cares. This is only natural. However, the scriptures tell us, " We love because he first loved us".-- (I John 4:19) " Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you".(I Peter 5:7)
What about the Holy Spirit? Who is He? Where did He come from? And what does He do?
Throughout the Bible God is referred to as the "Father, Son and Holy Spirit" Yes, the Holy Spirit is the third person of the "God Head" (the Trinity), "Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one" (Deut 6:4)
The Trinity works similar to if you were to hold three candles closely together. The candle lights would come together, too form one big light. However, you would still have the three candles, that would give separate light if held apart.
The Holy Spirit was first mentioned in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our own image".
The Holy Spirit is promised to all believers ".But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26)---
"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come". (.Acts 1:8)--- "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit".(Acts 2:4)
The Holy Spirit is sent by the Father(God),"In him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise" (Eph 1:13)
The Holy Spirit teaches all things, "If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given him".(James 1:5)
The Holy Spirit brings to remembrance the things of God, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you".(Psalms 119:11)
The Holy Spirit convicts us of right and wrong," "And when (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment".(John 16:8)
The Holy Spirit guides us in the faith, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts".(Isaiah 55: 8-9)
The Holy Spirit speaks only the words of God, " But when he, the spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come". ('John 16:13)
The Holy Spirit discloses what is to come, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'.(Jeremiah 29:11)
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do. Do it all for the glory of God". (1 Cor 10:31)
The Holy Spirit prays for us, "Likewise the Spirit also helps us in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express". (Rom 8:26)
So beloved, is it not time you spent the occasion in quite prayer asking God for a renewed filling of His Holy Spirit?
Do you remember this old "worship Hymn"? If so, sing it with me.
Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down
Oh Comforter and Friend
How we need Your touch again
Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down
Let Your power fall
Let Your voice be heard
Come and change our hearts
As we stand on Your word
Holy Spirit, rain down
No eye has seen, no ear has heard
No mind can know what God has in store
So open up heaven, open it wide
Over Your church and over our lives
Amen !
