There are languages and there are languages. In Nigeria,it is estimated that there are about two hundred and fifty languages. So it is with many other countries.People in a nation may have a common language spoken by all but there are other languages not common or generally spoken. This may be based on ethnic, tribal, religious or other grounds.
The language that God speaks is not in respect of a nation's mother tongue. This is not Hausa,Yoruba,Igbo ,Spanish,Latin,Greek,English and so on.
Your language that God speaks to you is peculiar to you 'alone';except there are others who are your 'family' members to whom He must speak the same language.Otherwise,no other person understands it.I love the words of the wise Psamist as recorded in chapter sixty-two in verse eleven, that reads,
'God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.'
He speaks as an understanding and obedient son. This is the kind of person you must be all the time in your relationship with the Lord your God.
God wants every son and daughter in His family to have a full knowledge of His ways and acts.To those Jews who wanted to kill Him but claimed to be children of Abraham,Jesus said,
'Why do you not understand My speech?Because you are not able to listen to My word.' John8:43.
Note that the Lord will not fold His hands to watch His people fail to understand what He says.He would rather speak their different languages. What am I saying, you may ask?Let us go straight to the book of first Kings chapter seventeen.
After Prophet Elijah locked the windows of heaven and pocketed the 'keys' with,'As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.'(I Kings 17:1)
The prophet who 'forgot' himself in his negative declaration was instructed to go to Zarephat where a widow has been directed to take care of him, after the brook Cherith was dry-where he was staying.
When the widow and the Prophet met,the former's state of affairs is better
described in her own words thus,
'As the Lord your(Elijah) God lives,I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin,and a little oil in a jar,and see,I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it ,and die.'(IKings17:12
This was the condition of a woman prepared by God to feed His Prophet,Elijah.Hear God in verse nine,
'Arise,go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there.
See,I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.'
Yet,the provider that was commanded has 'a handful of flour in a bin,and a little oil in a jar'.
She was expecting death after the last meal from the remnant.Thank God,the unbeatable combination worked.(Please, read my article"Help Your Helper To Help You" on this site). The Prophet blessed the little that were available and the outcome is recorded in verse sixteen,
'The bin of flour was not used up,nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.'
That is Jehovah Jireh speaking the 'language' of provision to the widow of Zarephath. She did not understand it at all! How do I know this? She said it with her mouth.Come along with me!
Reading further the chapter,we are informed that the only son of the widow became sick and died.He accused the prophet of causing God to remember her sins and to kill her son,(verse17).
After the prophet brought the son back to life, she emptied the content of her heart when she said to Elijah,
'Now by this(raising her son from the dead) I know that you are a man of God,and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.' verse24.
Simply put,the only language that can be spoken to this woman to convince her that Elijah was 'a man of God and that the word of God in his mouth is the truth' was to kill her son and bring him back to life. The language of provision was alien to her.The word from Elijah saved her and her son from death by hunger, but this she did not understand. My beloved reader,do you understand the languages the Lord had spoken to you?Or the question of Jesus applies to you that says,
'Are you also still without understanding?' Matthew 15:16
Anyone that fails to understand the language the Lord is speaking by his or her situation may stay long in it or move from one problem to another until he/she understands.
Please, make Solomon's prayer yours as contained in 1Kings3:9a
'Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart...'
In your present negative circumstances,do you know that God may be speaking the only language you can understand?I pray,
'Consider what I say,and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.' 2Timothy2:7
