Sunday 9/4/11 Rev Rodney=Don’t Wash Your Nets Yet, Just Go Deeper! Luke 5:1-22
==================================================================
Vs. 4 Don’t give up, don’t wash your nets yet, just go deeper.
God tells us what he wants us to do and then all these trials, tribulations come before God can put us where He wants us to be. Sometimes it seems like when God says something, then circumstances around us seem to go against it. God is only trying to test our Faith.
Its easy to trust God when we got a honey next to us.
Its easy to trust God when we got money in the bank.
Faith can only become our intimate possession when we are put in different situations. God has to bring us down low so he can bless us. God is not through with us yet and we need to hold on and not run away in defeat. Faith is our . Trust God because He is going to bring us out. He just doesn’t tell us WHEN he is going to bring us out. But we still have to trust God and believe that God will bring us out!
Our broken empty nets: These are what we have accumulated over our lifetime. Things that are not right in our life. Things we just settled for: the broke man, the sickness that lasts forever, being single for so long, drowning in our debts and about to give up.
Vs. 5 They toiled all night for fish and were about to give up.
Vs. 4 It isn’t over yet. Launch out into the deep. Stop fishing in shallow water where we can be comfortable. We need to cast our net into deeper water where God will have stuff for us to catch.
If God has equipped us with a boat, we should go into deeper water. This is why we are having trouble now at our job. Its because God want us to get into deeper water. We need to let Jesus come on board. Jesus doesn’t want to be in shallow water. God is trying to pull us into deeper water because he has got something special for us in the deep water. God will take our empty boat, our bad situation and use it as a showboat to show people what God can do in our life.
Vs. 4 Jesus said to drop the nets to Peter. Peter said he would do it just because Jesus said to. Peter didn’t think there would be any fish so he was shocked at the big catch. We need to do whatever Jesus tells us to do so we can get a bigger catch in our nets. This is why sometimes we are in shallow water for a while .God wants us to be ready for the big catch that’s in the deeper water. This is why we have to drop some shallow folk when we do get into deeper water. They are not praying for us but are preying on us.
Vs. 11 The disciples were so amazed with the big catch that they left all their things and followed Jesus. We can always depend on Jesus! We can’t give up = try again! We are going out into deeper water! Deeper water has sharks and catfish but as long as we have King Jesus on our boat everything is going to be all right!!
