Luke 4:30
KJV - But he passing through the midst of them went his way.
NIV - But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
How we respond to the Lord and His truth explains a great deal about how we view life. Consider the people of Nazareth after Jesus announced His ministry. To them, He was Joseph's son, and they could not see beyond their limited understanding that He was indeed, the Son of God. Don't be too hard on them though, many today do not grasp who He is and are also unchanged as He passes on His way. Sad isn't it? If only they had known, they would have pled for Him to stay.
Instead, they took him to the edge of a cliff to throw Him down, and He passed through their very midst. The hostility many demonstrate today toward Christ is a response no less hostile than the misguided people of Nazareth.
With the economy in the tank, unemployment at more than 9%, ever increasing prices, earthquakes spanning our continent and a hurricane approaching, many are living on the edge. We need to pray they too can see beyond the tumult that abounds and turn to the only real and everlasting peace that Christ offers to the forlorn heart, lest He pass through their midst.
People can respond to adversity with frustration and anger. They can blame God, reject Him, and even wish to toss Him over the edge where they perilously stand, the abyss ever so close. Or, they can embrace our Lord and Savior by asking Him to stay. The acceptable year of the Lord of which Jesus spoke on that fateful day in Nazareth is today. In large measure, many only know Jesus by what they see in us. Don't leave your brothers and sisters on the edge.
