Oops! I did it again.
This is one of those articles that has been “sitting there” for the last two weeks, and I haven’t really wanted to put it together. Nobody likes to admit to their mistakes, and especially putting them out there so that everyone can read about them, but God just won’t let this one slip. Even the pastor at our service yesterday unwittingly made me face this one. If we are to share to help others, sometimes we need to put aside the embarrassment so that the real us can step forward.
One of the worst things that I have noticed about myself is that sometimes it takes a very long time for me to learn something. Countless times I have repeated the exact same mistake. Baseball bat ministry has often worked well on me! But wether it is from stubbornness, ignorance or shear stupidity, there have been many times where I have had to sit back and say “Oops, I did it again”. Often we don’t even realise we are making the same mistake repeatedly until it is too late. Then, once again, we are faced with that trek around that same mountain, hoping and having to believe that God will help us fix whatever problem it is that we are facing.
The worst thing we can do though is to refuse to go back around that mountain. We may not like what God is asking us to face; we may not want to change different aspects of our life. We turn our back on God and what He is doing for our benefit, and hide, often both physically and spiritually, so that we don’t have to face our mistakes repeatedly. We backslide, we stop going to church, we don’t call on our brothers and sisters in Christ, because we feel as though the whole world can see our mistakes written across our forehead. We sit, condemning ourselves over the fact that we have made the same mistake. We feel as though there is no way that God is going to forgive us for this same mistake again. He already forgave me for it last week. How can I ask again?!
As soon as we start to condemn ourselves, it is very easy to forget what we are told in the book of Romans, “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (8:1). How can God love a sinner, who keeps on repeating the same sin, even if it does say “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). God doesn’t remember the sins we asked Him to forgive last week. He will never see you as a failure, He will only see the child that He loves, trying their hardest to please the Father they adore. Don’t let yourself be fooled into thinking God can’t forgive you, just because you can’t forgive yourself. And if God has forgiven you, then you need to forgive yourself too.
Always remember, when God asks us to deal with the hard parts, He is doing it for our sake, and He will never ask you to deal with more than you can handle. There is always a reason for dealing with the rubbish in our lives. We may not see it straight away, but it will make a difference later.
Always remember Gods promise:
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future…I will be found by you” declares the Lord, “and I will bring you back from captivity” Jer 29:11, 14
Always remember that you are human, and God will always lead you through the hard times, and He will always forgive you unconditionally, no matter how many times you repeat that same mistake. He wants you to have all that He has for you in this life. If you feel yourself trapped by your mistakes, go to the throne room, and ask God to help you fix it. Don’t let it hold you in bonds that shouldn’t be there. He has promised that He will help you to get free of those bonds, and live the future that He has set before you.

This article is so true! I'm glad that God loves us enough to punish us, as many times as it takes. Thank you for sharing this article.
Great article! Honest and most definitely true! From someone who seems to make the same mistakes over and over again. But as you said, God will at last free us from our captivity and what holds us back or in bondage. Thanks for this article! -Carole
Great reminder of His wonderful love towards us, thanks sister! - Jay Cookingham
Great article! I am reminded that the time we should run to God, we seem to run away from Him. He is always there to help and forgive. He is soooo faithful!
