Sunday 6/5/11 Pastor Ed sermon: Finance Part 2
Deut 8:18, Isaiah 1:19, Gen 14:18-20, Heb 7:8, Mal 3:10, Matt 23:23, Mal 3:9-12, John 1:17, II Tim 2:15, Heb 8:6, Gal 4:14, II Cor 9:7
Our attitude toward giving to God can void out His blessings to us. God is not opposed to us being blessed but he wants us to be a blessing to others. We must have the right motive in our heart when we give to God. It must not be to just get something more from Him.
The tithe is 10% of what money we make. The tithe is giving to God, the multiplier of our seed sown. True giving is having the faith and the belief that God will bless our seed.
Gen 14:18-20 Abraham was the first to tithe. Vs 20 God delivered Abraham’s enemies into his hand. God wants to deliver all our enemies into our hands too. Abraham was not pressured or obligated to pay tithe. He did it out of thankfulness to God. Abraham also gave tithes before there was a law to do it. Abraham paid tithes because he wanted to!! There wasn’t any television preacher shouting at Abraham to pay tithes!! Abraham paid tithes because he was thankful to God.
Tithing is in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Mal 3:10, Heb 7:8 Matt 23:23 Jesus tells the Pharisees that their attitude and motive when they paid tithe is wrong.
Mal 3:10-12 God will bless us and protect us when we pay our tithes.
John 1:17 The Law was given by Moses and Grace & Truth came by Jesus. Moses brought the law and judgment. If you broke the law, you were judged and stoned to death. Jesus brought grace-forgiveness and truth.
There was a major change in the way God dealt with people. If God dealt with people the way he did in the Old Testament, a whole lot of people would be dead! ( thieves, adulterers, fornicators etc.) Mal 3:9 Cursed
II Tim 2:15 We should study the Word to be approved.
In Hebrews 8:6 We have a Better Covenant in the New Testament which is established on Better Promises thru Jesus Christ. The Better Tithe is that there is no more curse if we don’t tithe, but the blessing on the tithe remains.
Gal 4:14 The blessing of Abraham comes on the Gentiles.
II Cor 9:7 God loves a cheerful giver.
God gives us enough to be givers so He can bless us more. When we do what God says it works out on our behalf. We don’t need to be able to figure our financial digits, stock and bonds or recession stuff.
All we need is to believe God, do as God says and we will prosper. !!
We must have faith in God for prosperity.!!
AMEN
