Encouragement
Either I am blind, naive and immature, or, I am wise, caring, emphatic and passionate. Either way, I distinctly remember one of our Lord's ten commandments which is this: 'Thou shalt not kill".
Last year, I read in a newspaper which told the story of Bhuddist Monks. They believe we should not kill any thing or any one.So much so, they had to move out of their Temple because they were invaded by some unwelcome visitors-killer ants!
The law of the jungle determines survival of the fittest. There are hunters and the hunted. The life and death cycle repeats itself constantly.
The law of Man was given from a higher realm. Man is Human, therefore he has been given the gift of being created in the image of God, our Lord.
Man has the gift of speech, rational thought, honour, choice, intuition, kindness, charity, faith. All of which are absent from the animal mind.
We are also taught that Our Lord abides in us. In other words, the Kingdom of God is within.
Even more,we can say I have God in me, you have God in you. Whether or not we are aware of this is simply a matter of time.
Humans appear to have a hard time in embracing the Commandment 'Thou shalt not kill'. I take this Commandment to mean we should not kill another human being. Yet, I feel no discomfort whatsoever when I prepare a roast meat meal!
To re-assure myself, in the Biblle I read that Jesus ate meat and drank wine.
But physical violence? No way, according to Jesus.
In fact, when one of His disciples used his sword to cut off an ear of a soldier, Jesus replaced the soldier's ear and told His disciple not to use violence.
But we think it's worth throwing a party when a person we judge as 'evil' for the crimes of which he committed ie; murder, that this person should justifiably be made an example of, through capital punishment, either hanging or face the electric chair.
'Thou shalt not kill' is unheard of throughout all cultures in this vast planet we call Earth.
Instead, we hear the words; 'An eye for an eye'. In other words, an act of revenge.
In all honesty, I am not fully conversant with the Bible, but a few quotes have remained with me.
For instance; 'Vengeance is Mine' sayeth the Lord.
Now, what do we do? We have a mass murderer in our midst. It has taken almost a decade to track him down. He has been responsible for untold suffering! He has many followers, therefore, if he is to 'rubbed out' we know his followers are only too keen to replace him. So, what do we do?
We kill him!
'Hooray", the cheer goes up. The heros of the day get a pat on the back, justice has been done on a human level. But what of the 'Divine" level?
You see, we do not fully appreciate or understand the Divine level. In other words, we have taken from Our Lord's hand and meted out our human justice.
Now we are satiated, our thirst and hunger for justice has been fulfilled.
Another example;
A teenager finds she is pregnant. She had neither the maturity nor common sense to protect herself from an unwanted pregnancy. Her parents are thrilled. Her lover is equally thrilled,as are his parents. But the young woman knows her education is about to be compromised. She had dreams of a successful future. Now this is dashed because of only ONE choice she made. An error of judgement.
She decides as this is HER body, HER pregnancy, then it is HER choice to abort. So she does! She assures herself it was only a few cells stuck together, would have felt no pain, didn't even know the gender, so what?
Should you kill a person, {from my perspective}, I may feel right in convicting you,of murder, but I would be wrong to take your life, as I then would be as guilty of thesame crime of which I convicted you.
No doubt, during the two World Wars, each opponent felt God was on their 'side'. Therefore, they both felt 'right'to be doing what they were doing.Assaulting and defending.
In this instance, they WERE right that they each had God on their side, after all, the Kingdom of God is within. But were they right to kill or be killed?
Jesus reminds us; Love one another as I have loved you'.
This quote may be hard to recall when you are up to your neck in mud, with a fully loaded rifle aimed at your head!
Jesus, a man of peace, withstood a farcical, illegal trial. Nevertheless, a murderer was freed and Jesus was chosen to replace him.
The Ten Commandments were written to guide us through our personal choices, We can always refer to them when we face a dilemma. After all, we are only human!
Today, even though we go about our own lives, dealing with sometimes, complex family matters, walking on eggshells, to keep the peace, on a greater level there is an undercurrent feeling of fear.
According to the Mayan Calendar, 2012 will bring about a great change. Certain planets will be aligned. A total eclipse of the sun is predicted.
Perhaps 2012 a new Spiritual thought process will impact upon our world, when we all realize that violence has NEVER been the answer. Instead, I hope there will be genuine love in abundance for all to share! I hope Love replaces Tolerance. I hope self-ish-ness will be replaced by self-less-ness.
I hope we will ALL turn to God, under One flag and believe in Him then truly keep His Ten Commandments.
