God’s timing is not our own. How many times have we heard that in our lifetimes—a couple dozen, or maybe a couple hundred? (At least it feels that way sometimes.) But how many times have we really thought about it?
In the past month, I’ve been impatient, trying to rush ahead of God and His plan for my life. And because of that, I let my heart get broken. But isn’t it when our hearts are broken that God begins to form a new one inside of us? It’s never easy when people hurt us or let us down. But there’s one thing we can always count on—God will never let us down. Never. Isn’t that a wonderful concept?
The world puts so much precedence on “love.” Hundreds, maybe thousands, of songs have been written about what it’s like to be “in love.” I’m not putting down true, romantic love, by any means; in God’s timing and between two people in God’s will, love is a wonderful, beautiful thing. But what does the world know about true love? The Bible states that love is patient and kind, it does not envy or boast and is not proud, and always endures. In a world where love is self-seeking and impatient—the exact opposite of what God has in mind—where is there a place for true, lasting love? I have to be honest—I cannot wait until the day when I fall in love with the man God has for me and spend the rest of my life with him. But whenever I feel discouraged or think that day will never come, God always reminds me (once again) that His clock isn’t the same as mine. He has a fantastic plan for my life, and that includes the man I will marry one day, if He so wills it.
And that goes for all of us. Whatever we’re waiting for at this time, it will happen in God’s timing. All we have to do is wait patiently and trust in Him, knowing that He always knows best.
