12/19/10 Sunday Sermon Pastor Ron - What’s In a Name ?? Isaiah 9:1-7, Romans 5:1
Our name is the word people identify us by. When people talk to us, they use our name. Sometimes it’s our birth name or a nickname or a new changed name. The mere mention of certain names automatically bring a picture or meaning to our minds: Judas, Jezebel, Benedict Arnold, etc There are four different names Isaiah gave for Jesus Christ. Each name has special meaning and gives us hope in the midst of darkness. Vs. 6: Unto us a child is born, a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called:
1) Wonderful Counselor:
Jesus’ counsel is full of wonder. His counsel is ALWAYS RIGHT! It has ALWAYS been and will ALWAYS be RIGHT! Period. The counsel of Jesus makes people step back and Say WOW! Everywhere Jesus went, the people would be astonished at his greatness and knowledge. Jesus always knew what was right then and NOW!
Jesus’ counsel is just what is NEEDED.! Its exact with pinpoint accuracy and is what we need right at that moment. Nobody knows us better than God so nobody knows what we need better than God. This is why Jesus’ counsel is just what we need.
God made ALL things, knows ALL things and can do ALL things. There should be no confusion in our life. NO CONFUSION! If we look to God for help, He will sort things out for us, and explain things to us. We just take it to Jesus and he will calm things down for us and take away OUR confusion.
2) Mighty God:
God is the Creator of All things and has All power. He wants us all to be saved. We were born sinners and have all missed the mark God will enable us for any task He give us to do. God always gives us what we need.
3) The Everlasting Father:
Eternal. Jesus will always and has always been here. Christ existed in eternity past and was involved in the creation of the world. Christ is our eternal deliverer, our everlasting father. The eternal father who can and will take care of all our needs. Everything will be okay. Our father will take care of it so we need not be burdened with the cares of the world.
4) Prince of Peace:
Romans 5:1 In Jesus’ kingdom, there is NO conflict. There is ONLY peace. When sin came into the world, conflict came in. Wars: countries, families, co-workers, etc.
With the Peace of Jesus….no sin, no conflict. Just Peace with Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can give us peace that will last forever. God is at peace with us thru Jesus. When we have faith in Jesus, we walk in Grace of God, in the Peace of Jesus and God is at peace with us. We must ask ourselves: Is God at peace with us??
AMEN
