Christian Living
Food for Thought
By Rick L King
Ga 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (KJV)
Ga 5:24 And they that are Christ‘s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Jas 4:3 or you pray and yet do not receive, because you pray wrongly, your object being to waste what you get on some pleasure or another. (Weymouth)
Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (KJV)
Jesus came to do the will of his Father, not his own. He gave up any life on earth that would bring satisfaction to him. He had to lay down any fleshly desires, wants, needs, passions, feelings, emotions, likes or dislikes, as he came to only do what the Father showed him and asked him to do. We are told that we are crucified with Him. Crucified means put to death. If I then read this correctly, we should be dead to everything except Jesus living in us and doing the same thing that he did in his earthly body. He just should now be doing it through us instead as it is Him living in us and not us.
I think of this in regard to prayer. He said that we ask amiss and don’t receive because we want it for our own lust. Weymouth says that we want it for our own pleasure. How much do we pray that we know that it is nothing about us or for us and know that it is only about His revealed will and for His kingdom? Is this why we have so few prayers answered? Is it because we want something however noble and good that it may be, is it for our pleasure or his? I wonder……………..
So much is taught today about self receiving for self. Prayers for money cars houses etc. This is all about self pleasure. We are told that they which are in the flesh cannot please God. When we pray and ask for things that bring satisfaction to our flesh instead of our spirit are we pleasing God? Haven’t we given in to the cares of this world and it is choking out God? Jesus came to do the father’s will alone. You may say well that was Jesus and he is different. But is he? We are supposed to be crucified with him and it is him alone living in us. This is something to consider. How much is for our self pleasure as opposed to satisfying what the Holy Spirit desires? How deep can this go? Could it mean that we are to have no desires for self at all? Does it mean that our emotions, feelings, wants, desires are really unimportant if we are really crucified with him? Could it be that the only things that we should desire are what he has revealed to us that these are the things that he alone wants for us. We know that when his presence comes upon us that we desire only to be with him. All the things that we thought were important don’t even enter our minds. So are all those things that we were concerned about outside his presence mean that they are all coming from our fleshly desire and not our spirit? Mathew 6 says that we are to take no thought of the basics such as food or clothing. When we are truly in the spirit, we don’t think about even the basic of things let alone all the other things that we seem to say make up our life such as money, possessions, jobs, houses, etc. This is just some good food for thought.
