Have you ever gotten to the end of the day then suddenly realized that you hadn't talked to God.....at all? Somehow all the 'stuff' that simply must be done at once overshadows that ever so tiny spot we've assigned to God. Quiet time with the Lord is just another bullet point on the to-do list....if there's time before you fall asleep.
But wait. Were's the logic in that? How can a follower of Christ get through an entire day without once consulting the very One he or she claims to follow?
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. {1 Peter 4:11}
That verse makes it pretty clear - everything we say and do must glorify God! But if we don't seek Him first, how is that possible? We can't separate our lives into neat little sections and confine God only to those where we are comfortable or allow Him merely to pick up our slack after we fail. If we chose to follow Jesus and we chose a life of complete joy, then we are to submit FULLY to the will of God. 'Self-propelling' our way through the day is just plain silly! When we don't hand our day over to God before we even get out of bed, we can guarantee ourselves a day of unnecessary anxiety, stress an even fatigue. You get pretty tired, pretty fast when you have the weight of the world on your shoulders! We often believe we are making wonderful decisions and conducting ourselves righteously, but most of the time we are not......
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. {Proverbs 14:12}
So......
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. {1 Peter 5:7}
Jesus wants us to hand over all our issues to Him! He desires to take care of everything! Why do so many of us have a problem with that?! He wants to make our lives peaceful and enjoyable, yet we struggle to let go because we (wrongly) think that not only can we can do it ourselves, but we know better than our all-knowing God in Heaven. Can you imagine....life with no worries, no problems, no uncertainties.....? Why imagine when you CAN have that?
Pray without ceasing. {1 Thessalonians 5:17}
We all know how the wrong tone or wording of an otherwise, nonabrasive statement or request can turn into a battle! Simply asking for the words to say when addressing your spouse, child or co-worker can save you a heap o' trouble! Request opportunities to shine His light and share His love. Tell Him how much you love Him and need Him, and thank Him for everything He has done for you. Go ahead and ask Him to stand next to you in that meeting or in the doctor's office, walk home with you, and at the risk of breaking out in song, you can even ask Jesus to "take the wheel" while you drive! Praying for God's will, wisdom, patience and humility in any and every situation will make a tremendous impact on your daily life. Placing our life and our day in the very capable hands of the Almighty gives us peace-of-mind that everything will turn out for His good, not ours. The bottom line is that we, very intentionally, need to consider, What would Jesus do?, before we do or say ANYTHING! Insert Jesus everywhere, regardless of how minor or complicated you think the situation may be! This life would be a whole heck of a lot easier if we would just stop reading the Bible and storing the information for a rainy day and start living it out EVERYDAY!
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." {John 8:12}
