The Death of Joshua
6 After Joshua sent the people away, each of the tribes left to take possession of the land allotted to them. 7 And the Israelites served the LORD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the leaders who outlived him—those who had seen all the great things the LORD had done for Israel.
8 Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110. 9 They buried him in the land he had been allocated, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
Israel Disobeys the LORD
10 After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.
11 The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight and served the images of Baal. 12 They abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the LORD. 13 They abandoned the LORD to serve Baal and the images of Ashtoreth. 14 This made the LORD burn with anger against Israel, so he handed them over to raiders who stole their possessions. He turned them over to their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to resist them. 15 Every time Israel went out to battle, the LORD fought against them, causing them to be defeated, just as he had warned. And the people were in great distress.
The land my have been allotted
But you have to take possession
Before you can enjoy the goods.
A gift unwrapped cannot be enjoyed.
Salvation not received can’t be enjoyed.
Soap that is not used cannot clean.
After taking possession be careful.
Make not the good or boon your God.
Know that God will not share His glory.
Do not pursue other gods or idols.
For they will steal your heart & mind
Leave you empty, high and dry.
Besides you will court the anger of God
When you forget the Fountain of your life
And stop drinking from your cistern
Prostituting yourself here and there
He will deliver you to your enemies
And you will throw away your inheritance.
Child of God. Possess your Possession
Notice that after the allotment, they had to go and take possession of their inheritance.
God has in store for those who are redeemed, exceeding great and precious promises. He made us partakers of His divine nature. We are overcomers. The greater One indwells us. but we can still live in abject poverty, beggarly, destitute unless we possess our possession take by force what is ours and enforce the victory won on Calvary’s Cross.
Ignorance can rob us of our inheritance, so is indolence. Often When God has given us the land, there are squatters on the Land that need to be dispossessed. The earth in all its fullness belongs to our God and he gives land to who He desires. However the squatters will not run away because the Lord has given you the land. You need to drive away the inhabitants and take possession.
As you trust in God, he will fight for you. You will not be on your own. This was what He did for the children of Israel
Unfortunately, after the death of Joshua the generation that sprung up forgot their God, made the boon their god and even ran after other gods.
The result was that God’s anger was kindled and He fought against them and gave them over to their enemies; they also lost their inheritance. It was lose, lose scenario. How tragic!
So friend, let us take, possess our possession and yet follow our God wholeheartedly like Joshua and Caleb and David and we will live happily ever after.
