Poetry
This winter's tale is nearly told.
It was one of dread in the bitter cold.
The frozen earth had been lulled to sleep
With flowers numb in the raw winds sweep.
Snow and ice have ruled my world
And a hateful wind down my chimney swirled.
Animals in that mean and awful blast
Did shiver and quake as winter passed.
But slowly, so slowly the sun grew warm
And now the rain the earth transforms.
I hear winter gasp in the waning shadows
As green spills out on hills and meadows.
Winter now hides behind tree and barn
Played out, fatigued, it does no harm.
We thank thee, Lord, for spring so sweet
And a new summer to come with comforting heat.
Thank thee, oh, Lord, for our springtime treat
And Your gift of new life in winter's retreat.
