What is truth?
Sharon and I watch many of these crime shows like CSI (all three types), NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc…. the closing line one night was, “What is truth?” This started a series of events that has really touched my heart and has led me to write this blog about truth.
What is truth? This comes straight from the Bible.
John 18:38 (King James Version)
38Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
In the show, the line pointed out that when they do investigations they interview many people who witness the crime and all of them come up with a different version of the crime. Because of all these different views, scientists have come up with the idea of relative truth. This means that all truth is relative to the person. This leads to the idea that there is not absolute truth; everything is relative. Therefore, whatever feels right for you is okay. You can see where this is going. You can do whatever you want as long as it was right at the time. Therefore, you can steal a ring if you are going to give it to your girlfriend, or you can kill someone if he bothers you.
Without absolute truth, it leads to chaos. Let me give you the definition of absolute truth, it is what God sees.
Matthew 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Therefore, we humans are flawed and have a flawed view of the world, but God sees everything and what He sees is perfect, or truth. Therefore, if God sees absolute truth and from the verse above, everything He says is perfect, therefore the Bible (God’s Word) is absolute truth.
Now let’s look at another claim of Jesus. He says that he is the truth. The Bible also says that Jesus is the Word (see below).
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
This is mind blowing that Jesus is the Word of God and is truth. That means that both the Word and the truth are living. This is a lot to take in. In addition, Jesus is the manifestation of both the Word and truth, which means that your Bible is Jesus. The idea of relative truth is a lie from Satan to keep us away from the truth. We must go to the Bible to find truth and then take this truth and apply it to our lives. We must not be fooled by the world that is telling us that there is not absolute truth, they are just trying to find it with there own understanding, but without the help of God they will miss every time.
I encourage you to read your Bible every day; this is where you will find Jesus and His help for your life. This will get you into the truth and the truth will set you free.
