Encouragement
The words to the song are simple yet profound:
“And I’ll let my words be few,
Jesus I am so in love with You.”
For a minute I almost mindlessly sing them, like we so often do with minds full of family, circumstances, tragedy and busyness. I shake my head to clear the cobwebs and purposely began thinking of those words. Why am I in love with You? I murmur.
Thoughts push their way in, crowded in my mind. The faithfulness and constancy of God plays in movies, one after another. There was that argument with my husband, all his fault. God was there, helping me and comforting me. Then there was that argument which was…well…probably my fault. God was there too, same God, same help. The time my Dad died, the week I had so much to do, the birth of my children, and my own marriage. God was with me every time, constant and faithful.
True, sometimes I am so overwhelmed with emotion that I think maybe He has left. Days that turn into weeks of dark times full of guilt, shame and condemnation planned by darkness to steal my purpose and joy attack me. Even when I can’t see or hear Him, God sends people, someone with skin on, to slowly walk down these desolate roads with me.
No, I have never been left alone. Yes, I know the answer to our love for Him is also the cross, what He endured for me to become His and have a home in eternity. However, at this moment, at this holiday time of year, it is thankfulness that rises in my heart as tears stream down my face. “Thank you for being there” is all I can whisper as I rejoice and sing. There is no greater gift then the presence of God, alive in me, restoring me day by day.
“So I’ll let my words be few,
“Jesus, I am so in love with you.”
