SUNDAY MORNING JULY 5TH 2009
The peace of God surrounds our home as the Sabbath day begins with a rush of life. Someone is tapping me on the shoulder and saying, “Honey, Mary, are you awake”?
I awake with a sleepy answer, “yes, I am now, honey what’s wrong”? My husband of all those years says, “Honey, we have overslept, it is now nine o’ five”.
I sat straight up in bed thinking, “Oh, no, it is the best day of my whole week and I have overslept”! At that point, I jumped our of bed and put my feet on the floor in a rush, rush, then this voice that I have heard for so many years whispered in my ear, “Mary, slow down you have plenty time, church doesn’t start until 10:30.
I needed to say thank you Lord for slowing me down but I went on my way in a slower pace getting everything prepared for us to assemble ourselves inside the House of God. I can’t wait to get there for I know that God will be there because he promised that he would be in the midst where there were two or three gathered in his Name.
George, my husband, is already out of bed by this time taking care of his own needs for he knows that I have got two angel dogs to take care of. We have an inside dog name Apples and an outside dog name Bella Marie. Apples, we purchased at the local pet store about 11 years ago and Bella Marie was sent to us off the street as a special gif, just a flea bitten, long legged lovable piece of Gods creations who needed us and we needed her.
I take Bella to the outside in the back yard and give her that morning breakfast that she is so accustomed to and I can see those brown eyes looking straight through me with the thanks a million Mamaw stare. After feeding Bella, I entered the back kitchen door, there she is, (Apples the love of my life) so fat and glowing all over with all that black fur just a shinning. It is as if she knows it is her turn to have breakfast. I always talk to her in a baby voice and a wag of the tail is immediately turned on as she promptly turns her belly up to get a morning rub.
In the midst of me finding the right ensemble for church and getting my hair done just right and all the little things that make us women who we are, I am slowed down even more. As I am getting all the song ballads and everything in order in my song book, I am told to get the sermon that He gave me weeks ago and look it over and put it where I can find it. The name of the sermon is, “Are we the friends of God”?
I honestly needed to argue with Him, but I knew there was no use for I knew that He is the winner all the way. I wanted to tell him that I hardly ever get to preach on Sunday morning that, that is the pastor’s job, but I had no time for back talk for all I want in my life is the will of God.
When we got to church, the sweet Holy Ghost started moving all over the place. There were healings, prophecies and rejoicings all over that building. There was hardly anyone left in their seats and the move of God was awesome!
We were all so greatly touched by the Lord that time got away from us and when you are touched so greatly, then time doesn’t really matter.
Some time after the hour struck noon, the pastor came back to me and touched me softly on the arm and said, “Mary, will you preach today because I have to leave early to meet my sister-in-law for she is flying out today, being sent to Iran.
I looked at him and smiled and said, “Yes, I will preach for you today”!
He walked upon the pulpit and told our congregation. “I have to make an announcement, I have to leave early today and I have asked Mary to preach and she said, “Yes”! She did not back down, she just said an instant, “yes”! Then he said,” well that is what the word says, be instant, in season and out of season.”
I slowly walked to the pulpit with the sermon of the day tucked safely away inside my bible. As the pastor was leaving out the back door I was trying very hard to concentrate on that sermon.
I would like to touch on a subject today that each of us need to think about, We know that God is our best friend, but do we give him the same courtesy, “Are we the friends of God”?
