Empty traditions have always welcomed the needy with hostility.
In general all would love something that's worth, something that's meaningful and not just empty traditions hindering their way ahead.
"But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?”
And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”"
Mark 2:25-28 (New King James Version)
The issue was that the so called untrained yet good at heart disciples of the Lord had plucked fresh grains from the field and had eaten it on Sabbath, which was seen by the so called trained yet corrupt at heart Pharisees and they wanted to make best use of the opportunity to accuse Jesus and His disciples.
The explanation Jesus gave in the verse above did not mean that He was against keeping the Sabbath, however He probably was much disturbed with the double life of the Pharisees than with the breaking of the Sabbath Law by His disciples.
Often I do fast, yet when I introspect myself during fasting, several times I have been ashamed of myself when I fast without being able to take out time for prayer and time to meditate on the Word of God, I literally ask myself, 'Am I fasting, or am I on self starvation?'. My conscience tells me that God would be more pleased with me if I spent more time in prayer and meditating on His Word than just moving around empty stomach to please Him, however that does not mean that fasting is of no use, however if fasting is combined with prayer and meditation of the Word of God that will bring the greatest victory in our life. If my walk with God is not right, then any amount of fasting would never please the Lord God.
Let's be of worth to the Lord our God, that He may find us trustworthy and dependable.
