SEEING THINGS INVISIBLE
Robert L. Bray, Sr.
Someone said, “Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.” In the natural way of thinking that doesn’t make sense. How can you see something that’s invisible? Well, my friend, look around. Every tangible thing we see such as buildings, our automobiles and furniture began as ideas in someone’s mind. They were then translated onto paper in the form of plans and blueprints. However, they were originally created from things unseen by the naked eye. We often deal with unseen things that impact us in various ways such as the wind. Can we grasp the wind or hold it in our fist? Of course not. However, we can certainly see the results of its power. Sometimes, especially in these hard times, we must look into that invisible realm and discover those hidden treasures because not only do they do exist but they can transform our lives.
Thomas Edison’s dream of creating a light bulb has dramatically impacted our way of life throughout the modern world because of his belief in something he couldn’t see and his determination to bring it to pass. What is your dream? Have you put it on the shelf? Perhaps it’s time to dust it off and breath new life into it. Don’t let it die on the vine. Someone needs it. You CAN resurrect it. The great poet Langston Hughes wrote in his poem, A DREAM DEFERRED, “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun or fester like a sore and then run?”
Many of us are experiencing different forms of pain, however, pain is not always negative. It can often bring renewal. Physical pain let’s us know that something is wrong, that something needs fixing. Emotional pain like physical pain can also be a catalyst and alert us to the need to make necessary changes. We’re all familiar with the expression, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.” However, when we reach that juncture, we can continue down that same old “sick and tired road,” or realize the need to make adjustments; weigh our alternatives and most of all take the necessary action.
We can sometimes become so absorbed with negative circumstances that we can’t see the possibilities. All around us today, so many are engrossed in pessimism, gloom and doom and the news media seems to have a way of making bad things worse. I fully understand that we are facing extremely difficult times and that so many people are hurting. However, If we only focus on the problems we will never see the solutions. If every day you go to the garbage dump you will never see the beautiful flower garden. Jesus was the most positive person who ever lived. He told a bunch of amazed disciples, “With men this is impossible but with God all things are possible.” All things? Yes, all things! Look into that invisible realm, my friend, and you will discover your “pearl of great price.” It’s within the Kingdom of God!
