Encouragement: At Any Given Moment 8/9/10

Offering critique or advice to a fellow writer is often very difficult. We don't want to hurt their feelings or possibly cause them to become offended or disappointed. Is there a way to encourage while at the same time pointing out those troublesome areas in which they need to drastically improve?

Here's a brief portion of Glenn's article this week:

I have to admit it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint that razor's edge that stands between killjoy and flatterer. I want every writer to succeed to the level of their ability. Sometimes it's hard to help them pinpoint where that level actually is.
