Judging Levels

Post by allenp »

I searched the forums but can't find an answer to something I've often wondered about...do the judges know the level of each entry?? I know all the judges judge all levels, but before they read them, do they know whether or not it is a Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Masters level entry? Just curious.

Back when we took turns judging, we did know which level every entry was in, but it really didn't matter. We were to judge each based on its own merits. Then each set of scores were averaged. I'm assuming that it is done similar to that now.

Deb would be able to correct me if I'm wrong :)

Yes, the judges know the levels, but as Shari said, that doesn't enter into the judging process. The judges have a rating sheet with 9 criteria with which they evaluate each piece. The criteria are the same, regardless of level.

If you'd like a copy of the judges' ratings sheet, pop over to this forum:

and let Deb know. She will email one to you.
