Kidding aside, I acted as judge last year when I didn't have any of my entries in the running for BoB (sniff...sniff...). It was so much fun because every entry was wonderful - truly enjoyable reading!

The hard part was that because they were all so good, it was difficult to pick the winner. This is where the judging score sheets are invaluable. By focusing on the categories to judge, it helps you to see where the technical strengths and weaknesses are in each piece instead of just going by your emotional connection.

I'm glad I have a couple in the running this year but I would have loved to judge again. I definitely came away blessed by reading such great work. Every one of those forty #1 authors are winners in my book.

So volunteer for the job! You'll be glad you did. :D

I got mine, Deb. I have Excel. I'm out of town Friday-Saturday but I'll make sure to get started immediately on Wed.

So does that mean I can start sending out the chocolate on Wednesday? If I overnight it, it will arrive just in time for judging.

Thanks Chrissy. Got your emails. Just haven't had much time to check email for the last couple of days. Hoping to get back into action later today (if my headache ever goes away).

I have an idea... I'll save the chocolate for the conference. If I win, all of you judges who are there will get a little extra surprise! And, Julie, you will be off your fast by then!

Shhh. Don't tell Deb I was here. 8)

No worries, Ben. I'll explain when I send the rating sheet out to you all on Thursday (with the list of entries).

The judging for Best of the Best isn't the same as the regular Challenge, though. There are some similarities, but there are less categories to rate, and the last category requires the judges to rank each entry in their order of preference as the best of the best. That's where it gets tough.

The main difference is that these entries are all winners in their own right. So really, the best of the best has less to do with technical things, and more to do with how much a reader actually enjoyed it.

Anyway, stay tuned for more information on Thursday.

Yes, I assumed that would probably be the case.

Thanks!
