Jan, I would not capitalize Electrical Engineer, but is there a rule that it should or should not be capitalized>

Roland is a gifted artist, an Electrical Engineer of great stature.

Thanks,

Lillian

It's the difference between a title and just the name of a job. In your example, 'electrical engineer' is just like any other job:

Jan was a high school teacher. My doctor has prescribed antibiotics. My daughter would like to be an electrical engineer when she grows up.

You'd capitalize titles, such as those that are elected or appointed--the difference being specificity and uniqueness.

Jan was the Superintendent of Schools. My neighbor is the City Commissioner.
